Product Description

Any place you can put solder in, you can take it out with Super Wick. Remove the most expensive circuitry with confidence. Just lay the Super Wick on the soldered joint, apply tip of soldering iron to top-side for one second, and lift iron and Super Wick together to leave a clean connection ready for component removal or replacing. Super Wick is pure copper, specially woven wound on a pocket size spool with pressurized periphery. ROHS Compliant.

Desoldering Braids

Desoldering Braids

MG Chemicals Super Wicks are desoldering braids made of clean, oxide-free copper wire with a tight weave. The best solder wick is designed for solder removal to ease the replacement of electronics components without damaging the board or components. They reduce rework/repair time and minimize the risk of heat damage to the board.

Our desoldering braids’ exceptional weave design and heat transfer capacities result in very fast and large capacity wicking, faster than any other competitive brand on the market.

We offer four solder wick types: Type ‘R’, Lead-Free, and No-Clean and No-Flux systems. They are available in a wide variety of lengths, and widths. All 5 braids are housed in static-free bobbins.

Features: Copper wick – high purity oxide free copper | Tight weave | Fast wicking | Environmentally stable | ESD safe bobbins for 1.5 m size | NSF – Non-Food Compounds Program listed (Excluding 400-NF series)

Applications: Solder removal | Reworking and repair of circuit boards | Benchtop repair and service | Surface mount assembly touch-up

I have been using Super Wick for many years for the so called "Micro Soldering" for the data recovery and repair for the iPhones and Macbooks. The wicks do not break easily like the cheap brands and the braids are really fine that I can use on very dedicated places like EEPROM chip area with hardly space to get in and the pads are seriously fragile. I haven't use any other wick since I started using the super wick.

Found out what I was doing wrong (see below); I had a crappy $8 soldering iron. Once I purchased a legitimate soldering station (which wasn't that expensive after all), I had no trouble picking up excess solder with this wick. While it doesn't remove *all* of the old solder, it removes enough for you to remove components cleanly, and/or create a new solder joint.

Kudos to those who got this product to do anything useful. This was my first experience using solder wick; I tried everything I could think of (altering the tip size of the soldering iron, increasing / decreasing the temp, flux / no flux), but I couldn't get this product to wick. About the only thing I could manage to do was to solder it to the board I was trying to wick solder away from. Is this stuff not intended for working with a soldering iron?

Does it work? Yes. Does it work well? It depends on the user's skill set. If you're a beginner, youtube is your friend. Seriously. It's a simple concept: The solder you want to remove is absorbed by the braid when heat is applied on the braid (capillary action?) Easier said than done. Some factors to contend with is how old is the solder, is it lead or lead free? Again, youtube how this works beofre commiting.

If you’ve never used desoldering braid, you’ve got to give it a try. It is so much easier than trying to use the suction bulb or the trigger action solder sucker. What is your soldering iron is hot all you have to do is place the braid over the solder you want to remove, then press the hot tip of the soldering iron on top of that it , and in just a few seconds the solder is drawn into the braid. If there’s a wire solder that you have to remove you might need to pick up and move the braid a couple times to get it all.
