Very accurate and diverse read on the subject. As they say in the Navy, I am a plank owner. I was one of the original subscribers. Seriously considering moving to the E Edition. Only problem there is with my declining eyesight, maps can be difficult at best. I highly recommend this periodical.

I have been a subscriber to this journal, on and off, for, quite literally, decades. It is the preeminent publication of its type. It does a nice job of balancing popular military history with significant new scholarship by some of the best known figures in the field. It has always been lavishly illustrated and, at one time, it was published hardcover. It should not be confused with the popular magazine formats which too often tend to play it safe by avoiding controversy and the latest scholarship in favor of reaching a wider audience. If military history is your "thing," it is peerless. What is more, the kindle price, high as it is, is significantly lower than the price of a printed subscription. Try it out. Incidentally, while, not surprisingly, much of its content is reasonably modern (and hence has a heavy American presence), it is a very balanced journal and often focuses on everything from Vikings to the Crusades.

I tried an issue of this magazine. An excellent quarterly journal if one is interested in the subject matter. The title is "MHQ; The Military History Quarterly, regarding the issue I am reviewing the title should be "AMHQ: The American Military History Quarterly." Overwhelmingly American. Nothing wrong with that if you are purely interested in American military history, I was expecting a journal much more world wide.

The four star rating is for the American content and the fact that on occasion it does include a small article containing content outside the United States.

Military History Quarterly (MHQ) is a magainze that comes out four times a year and does fantastic articles from the Ancient to The Modern World on military battles, armies, navies, men, leaders, and equipment. You can pick a period of history from the well known to the unknown and I can almost guarantee that in a past MHQ magazine, they have covered it or a certain aspect of what you are looking for. Outstanding artiles, by experts in the field, professors, soldiers, sailors, airmen who lived it, and articles on equipment, ships, planes, tanks, and all sorts of weapons can be found in the quarterly review. An outstanding magazaine that has everything a military history enthusiast or student can ask for! HIGHLY RECOMMNEDED!

I do not know how to write this review so it is fair to every one so I will not write it from my standpoint but will give you a little background on to why I have not subscribed following my 30 day free trial.

First this is an excellent journal that I have wanted to subscribe to for years but did not for either lack of time or lack of money. The Kindle edition is well done, with the great photography presented exceptionally well. It is easy to navigate through and I am sure it is great to read. It even offers a magnifier to aid those with some sight problems. So I highly recommend this to any serious student of military history.

My problem with the Kindle edition is me not the product. I am severely visually impaired and even with the use of the magnifier built into the magazine AND with the great magnifier with the new Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 gen 4 I was not able to get it all to work together. So I canceled my 30 day free trial with some sadness.

I will now try and find a subscription to the paper copy and use my CCTV to read the journal that way. I really, really wanted to use the kindle for reading since it is portable and the 30 pound CCTV certainly is not.

Eagle (a weird nick name for a blind guy but it was not my idea!)

It's a great magazine. This is my first mag to get on the kindle & I had doubts as to wether or not it would be as good as an actual magazine. It is! The format is easy to use. I can find an article that interests me & go right to it. MHQ is a great mag for anyone interested in military history. The issue I have covers a broad range of subjects from BCE to the present. I recommend it.
