Replacement tape measure is now accurate to within 1/32" However, the nylon coating has chipped within the first week of regular use and is strangely bent just behind the tongue latch. This causes the tape measure to stick when it's fully retracted. There was also a slight flat section of the tape measure that is only noticeable when the tape measure is being pulled out/retracted within the first six inches.
I may try this brand once more because the tape is noticeably more robust than other tapes, and these could just be lemons. I do like a lot of the design features, stated in the pros below.
One other thing, it is a fatter casing and a bit heavier than similar 16 footers. The red is easy to spot when everything else is metallic.
Big head easy to grab onto parts.
Stand out distance is sufficient (~8ft)
Spring not too strong. (A more gentle return)
Number markings for inches beyond previous foot. (ie at the 38 inches mark there is a 2 above it for 3' 2")
NOT ACCURATE. (it is off by 1/16 to an 1/8 inch depending on the length measured, sometimes it is accurate, some under, some over)
No numbered fractions (Only whole numbers for inches/ feet and plain tick marks for in between)
I have to make precise measurements constantly that need to be accurate to within a 1/32. A little variation between the 1/16 tick marks I can deal with but when it is up to 1/8 off, I can't trust it. Perhaps the head was riveted on too tight or mine is defective but I can't use it. The tape measure does not have fractional markings like other typical fat tapes. Very annoying that this top brand does not have such markings and that it is not accurate to boot. I use my crummy generic brand tape measure to get good measurements and it has the fractions that make my life easy.
Final verdict: Not worth purchasing. Returning it.
