All my favorite characters are back: Dina, Liam, Duncan, and (my #1 fave) Bates. After they meet Kim and Lexa, their world flips upside down. Can they set things right again?
SO not the case here! I do believe 'The Emergence' is definitely just as good--if not better--then the first.
First, I was disappointed for half a second when I realized 'Emergence' does not strictly follow around Shrians Dina and Liam, who we met and fell for in the first book. But that lasted half a second, because Nixon paces everything so well that the transition is smooth and you don't miss them for long.
'Emergence' focuses more on Duncan Ranger, and some new 'help' that sort of falls into their laps so to speak--Kim and Lexa. Kim has had her memories stolen and there are more alien artifacts to find before s*** hits the fan. It was--is nice--to see the evolution of Duncan and see him grow more as a character.
It is evenly paced, witty and still has the same 'Star Trek' meets 'Men in Black' meets 'Avengers' feel...and reads a lot like fantasy; only with extra-terrestrials being the fantasy creature. It's not overly technological, confusing or anything. Definitely a very good continuation in the MIND series and I totally can't wait for the next one...I'm assuming that, since we've already covered Dina and Duncan it HAS to be about Bates which I have a little fangirl crush on. ;)
All in all good story I think sci-fi romance lovers and fantasy lovers alike will enjoy!
The neat thing we find out is their powers, whether known or not are increased by being together, as a group, but also as couples.
So much happens, the uncertainty of what they are searching for, no idea who is controlling the events (or who is after them). In Mind: The Emergence, we focus on Duncan and his relationship with the team and others. We are pulled along as the team starts to get more information in really intriguing ways.
I enjoyed the story, the characters and the action. I'm looking forward to reading more in Mind: The Reckoning.
I will be posting updated, more detailed reviews later this week as I have pneumonia and can't fully concentrate on all the detailed descriptions that I would like to add. I want to give a fresh outlook for readers that are contemplating this series. I would definitely recommend this book along with book along with the other two.
I look forward to reading more from this author.
