I did EVERYTHING as instructed. I boiled water for five minutes, poured it into the thermos and closed it for five more minutes, super heated and boiled my kid's soup and got it as hot as i could if it wasn't something you could boil. Four hours later, their food was at best tepid and in week two not even that. THey said their food didn't taste right, and even though i'd washed the things repeatedly I had to admit the interior of the thermos had an odd chemical smell. NOw it's the beginning of the week and i tried sending hot soup to school one last time. Not only was their soup COLD only four hours or less after i put it in this piece of garbage MIRA 'vacuum' but now the freaking paint is PEELING off the thing from the bottom up! PAINT CHIPS TOO! DO NOT EVER WASTE YOUR MONEY. IF anyone can tell me about a thermos that really works , please tell me.
Pros: Leak proof, easy to clean and looks nice initially.
Cons: Scratches very easily because the color is just a powder spray (you could scratch the color off with your nail without much effort); top is a little finicky when trying to close it; does not retain heat past the first hour or cold past the second hour.
This item was ok. It under performed. I am happy that I can put one or both of these in my purse and not worry about food leaking. I don't need to worry about how it sits in my purse either. It really, really is leak proof. That's something that can be remarkably hard to find. The scratches are something I can live with for the time being. However, I'm really disappointed in it's ability to insulate. I prep the container for hot foods by filling it up with hot water from my keurig and letting it sit for a few minutes before adding hot food. For cold items I often pack the night before and leave it in the fridge over night. It just doesn't cut it in the temperature holding department.
