Turns yellow. Internal metal tension spring rusted and is about to break.

The white cover looks nice for a few months but turns dingy yellow in the sun. Metal spring that hold the cover closed rust and now they don’t open or close very easy. The spring should be stainless steel since it’s a cover designed for wet locations. Make the spring galvanized or stainless and plastic that keeps its color and you would have a good cover.

I don't think neoprene is as relaible as plastic

I bought this. Then, i realized that it isn't deep enough to hold a plug unless you expand its neoprene. They may have tested their material. However, I don't trust it as much as I trust hard plastic versions. Rather, neoprene wetsuits have to be replaced eventually because of cracking and sun damage. I am going to return the one I bought without even opening and trying it. I didn't realize that neoprene was a main part of its design until after i bought it.

The outlet took a little playing with to understand. After installing you pop the hinged cover up and plug in what you need then close the hinged cover with the wires guided to the lower left corner of the outlet. The hinged cover expands outward to compensate for the room taken out by the protruding plug while remaining waterproof due to an accordion rubber piece that comes out with the expanded cover.

This Taymac ML500W wet location outlet cover is very low profile when not being used, so it looks much nicer than traditional while-in-use covers. When a cord is plugged-in the front plastic section extends like an accordion and everything inside remains protected and dry.

The ML500W is clearly marked "Extra Duty" on the front cover, so it complies with the 2014 NEC code requirements for wet location single gang outlet installations.

By the way, I previously installed several Taymac's ML450W covers that are sold by my local big-box hardware store. Although it is a different part number, it looks identical to this one and both have the Extra Duty labeling. So if you like the ML450E then I expect that you'll like the ML500W too.

Nice single gang solution

I replaced an old so-called weather proof outlet cover that had individual flip-ups for the 2 edison outlets. Much rust and oxidation. I sealed this new cover properly with silicon and expect long life with no issues. It looks good and the design seems to keep out the moisture. I will not be using the pop-out function for the face cover as it won't accommodate the larger Hubble plug ends I use. Since I only use these outlets occasionally, I don't keep things plugged in all the time, which was the idea for the pop-out face. Maybe a standard extension cord would work for that.

The product photos are all showing the cover from the outside. Inside, a standard switch plate (such as for signal wiring) would fit without any cutting. Would, except-- there are two lugs next to the screw holes that stand up higher than a switch plate; you could cut those off pretty easily. And except even more significantly there's a plastic bezel on the back side of the cover, not shown in photos, that squeezes so tightly against the back plate that there is not room for a switch plate in between. That requires extreme modification of the cover or extreme modification of the plate.

I have had a longstanding problem with GFCI outlet triggering after a rain, sprinkling, or even high humidity. So this looks to be the ultimate solution with the "bellows" expansion feature allowing an always on plug to be used. The Installation was easy and it does indeed expand to accommodate a single large plug. I do have a question regarding long-term durability of the rubber bellows and in time the plastic is almost sure to crack, but if I could get 3-5 years out of this all would be well.

Not as good as these used to be. They made this heavy duty, and in the process they changed it to plates that can swap out for duplex, switch, or decor. These pieces that swap out now make the cover a tiny bit thicker making them not sit flush with the outlet anymore.

It is a beautiful product and easy to install but very hard to open the lid after installation. I bought two of them and one stoped working after 6 weeks. The extention part is not as easy as that to extend. Doesn't worth the money.
