Already widely considered the most authentic baseball game available, MLB 08 The Show is set to provide fans with the most realistic baseball experience to date with innovations such as a more immersive Road to The Show mode, enabling gamers to play both offense and defense from the created player’s perspective.

Providing players with some additional performance incentives, the MLB franchise introduces the new Progressive Batting Performance feature, which will both reward players for superior performance and penalize them for hitting slumps. Specific to each individual batter, players will be rewarded with slight contact bonuses, or punished with slight decreases in contact, based on how that batter performs beyond his "natural ability" while under user control.

A Fun Experience

MLB 2008 The Show is a much more challenging and fun experience than my old MLB 2005 because I won't be able to blow out opponents 21-2 anymore thanks to the vastly improved pitching and batting controls. I had a blast trying to figure out how to hit the ball at first because all I could do was ground out. It seems like a much more realistic experience than the 05' version because even if you place a ball within the strike zone your not assured a strike and if you murder the ball...you may not hit a homerun. Even the rosters have expanded to include AAA and AA franchises. The only thing I miss from 05 is Vin Scully in the broadcast booth, one of the few legendary baseball men who can make even cheesy scripted dialogue sound epic. The only complaints I have are at the end of the season in Franchise mode, if you chose to go through and do contracts manually there's three teams for the organization to go through and it can be time consuming. A further quip is in career mode when it asks you to do something like field a bunt when playing third base and the ball is bunted 25ft from home plate...not even A-Rod can pull that off! Neither of these minor irritations detract greatly from the fun and enjoyment I got from this game.

This is a game that I, a legally blind man who needs to use screen reading programs and Braille, can still play. It helps that you can move the sliders so that the computer's characters are blind and not too bright. Maybe not as visually accurate as others, but that is to my advantage.
