I'm giving two stars because parts of the lock work fine -- the remote functionality works, for instance -- and the overall design is quite nice. But they clearly have some quality control issues. I'm still deciding if I'm going to just go ahead with using the two rows of numbers that work, or if I am going to return this and try something else.
So if you have the configuration that I do, under the battery cover you'll see a C button (cancel), an S button (set) and a switch in a little rectangle labeled " 1 2". Buried in tiny print in an unlikely position within the troubleshooting section, there is a little note that says if your lock works backwards to reverse "the switch". So I took a stab and moved that switch to 2 -- there was a single beep so I thought I might be in business. It didn't move far so maybe it was in the center and that was part of my problem... not sure about that. Anyway, 2 didn't do the job so I used a tiny screwdriver to push the switch over to 1. It was a challenge AND there was no beep. But lo and behold, the lock started working the way it should! Woohoo!
Anyway what I like about this lock versus Schlage locks that operate similarly (I saw them at Home Depot for about the same price) is that the part of the lock on the interior of the door is "pretty". The Schlage version had a black plastic cover, was about 1/3 larger and those were deal breakers for me. Vanity and all... maybe it's a better lock, maybe not but I didn't want to look at a big hunk of black plastic on the pristine white painted door.
Because of the reversal problem, I have not used the key fob or keypad extensively but I can tell you that the lock ALWAYS sounds like it's struggling when I do. Not that it doesn't work, because it does. But it sounds like it's really working hard. I have not had any battery issues yet and the lock has been in service for just under one year.
Regards distance that the fob will transmit effectively, I find that I can be about 8-10 feet away (with a clear shot/no obstructions) and it works fine. I doubt that the way our entrance is that I could get a clear shot from 30 feet out but 8-10 feet is fine for hubby in his wheelchair so if that's a limitation, it's OK for us.
Bottom line, install it carefully and it should do its job for you. It's working for us.
