Top Customer Reviews
Prior to buying, I called Apex and found them very helpful. They were more than willing to build me a custom filter, which I thought I wanted, but they ultimately educated me as to why this system was a better option.
I bought through Amazon due to the fact Prime shipping was free verse having to pay a bit for shipping. The unit is just under 60lbs so shipping fees can be pretty high.
I took one off start because the first unit I bought never actually shipped, and I had to buy a second unit and be refunded for the first. The good news is Amazon offered free next day shipping when I executed the second purchase. So I was happy because it meant it would be delivered on a Friday and could be installed on Saturday instead of having to wait until for another Saturday whenmy dad was free to install.
Now on to the filter. This is a high quality well built system.
My dad who is a plumber installed the system. I put in bypasses as well as pressure gauges and union connections which will allow me to simply disconnect, remove, and remount a new system in the event of failure.
Install took about 2.5 hours, which included some rerouting of my water main. We did it in copper not pex which takes a good bit longer to install. If I was doing it myself I would have done it in pex but the install would not have been nearly as well thought out.
Following the install, I let my water run for about 30 minutes or so to help flush the system.
The instructions mentioned water may be dark for the first day or so, but I never really really noticed much after the system flush.
Since I installed pressure gauges before and after the filter I can tell there is minimal pressure loss. Approximately 2psi.
My water now taste great, and the first few rounds of dishes look extra sparkly.
Only knock on system was it did not ship with mounting hardware. If it had shipped the first time I would rate it five stars because the lack of mounting hardware is by no means a deal breaker. The system is well built and high quality, and the free advice I got from the folks at Apex when I called was second to none.
The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is that I have not tested the water to see what's still in it. I do know that the harsh chemical smell of the water is gone, and that is wonderful. I am happy that we'll no longer be watering the garden with water that smells like chemicals or bathing in it.
We still use a three-stage reverse osmosis system at the tap to filter the water we drink and cook with, which we have done for years, so it would not bother me too much if I were to find out that this system didn't get every last thing. Seems like a great value so far.
