The MSA is comfortable. Liquid filled ear cushions are far superior to the cheap foam counterparts.
Bought behind the ear style to enable wearing a large hat for sun protection. Sordin does not allow the hat to be pulled down far enough to stay on in wind.
Product is more comfortable than anything I've owned. Exception is David Clark (no electronics) (wish DC would get in this market)
Hearing protection is superior to similar priced ProEars (own three of 'em)
Electronics and audio is not as good as ProEars. Not even close. MSA electronics are hyper sensitive. Attempts to attenuate everything. Audio level is constantly and very quickly going up and down. Most users will never notice this. Long time ProEars owners will.
ProEars uses a leather type material for ear seals. These last me about six months until they harden and become useless.
After hearing/reading rave reviews about how comfortable these are, I have to say I'm underwhelmed. Much of the comfort is attributed to the gel ear seals. The gel ear seals certainly do help, especially when the too snug neckband is clamping down with vise like force. After tweaking the neckband I was able to make them fit a little better, but I still felt like they were a little snug. Maybe I have a gigantic head and everyone has been too polite to say anything.
Moving on, as hearing protection they do the job. You can easily hear people around you and yet have your hearing protected during loud noises. For me these were for IDPA matches and my regular range trips, with the occasional class thrown in. They perform as expected, you can hear your RSO, and carry on normal conversation. Outdoors anyway, if you're shooting at an indoor range I would still double up.
So why the 3 star rating....one word, value. You can buy the Peltors add gel ear seals and you're in that set-up for $100 less than these. Plus they fit an adult sized head. The electronics in both sets sound the same to me. I really want to say the Sordins sound better, but if I'm being honest with myself, I would only say to justify the price.
In the end these are what all the cool kids are wearing at the range, so I'm going to keep them.
Getting used to the sound might take a while, as it isn’t always “smooth.” There can be a choppiness to it sending the sound both left and right. You still hear everything, but all compressed down to the relatively the same volume. Admittedly, it can be a bit distracting to be able to distinctly hear people a over a hundred feet away while trying to talk to people right in front of you, but I don’t think there’s any sort of technology that could solve that problem.
Overall, a solid product. Not sure I’d recommend it to other service members yet, unless you can confirm that it fits under your issued helmet. It’s still useful to me, as there are plenty of rifle/pistol range activities at work and play where I could wear these without a helmet. The big question is, are they worth $275? That’s something only you can answer for yourself.
My head is too large across for the regular headband style. I had those, and had to return them. This model is designed to work under helmets, and it works great. I can put my baseball cap under or over the strap, but under works better. The gel cups are very comfortable. I didn't try the regular cups so can't compare.
Sound quality is excellent. Especially with foam plugs under these, even at an indoor range the hearing protection is better than any I've had. Note that at some point, sound will overcome any barrier over your ear itself, so the incremental gain with these over the cheaper over-ear products is far less than the incremental benefit of adding even cheap muffs over nothing at all. I would say 10% better at most. As always, indoors especially and also where very loud firearms are used, add in the in-ear foam plugs under these for optimal hearing protection. Where these really show their value is in comfort (especially with glasses on), and the adjustable strap on his model is far more customizable than the stock head band style. Especially for those of us blessed with larger heads! Also, the quality is great for the microphones for passing through normal sounds.
If you wear these a couple hours a month, it's probably not worth the expense. If you were these a few hours a week or more, and have multiple applications (workshop noise, range time, etc) I'd endorse them as worth the money.

The sound stage is still not perfect - there are some issues with positioning of sound now and then and close sounds dominate.
Und damit ist der Tragekomfort über eine längere Zeit nicht gegeben und der Gehörschutz fängt an zu drücken. Für den Preis ein no Go
