This laptop is great, I don't really play games too much on PC. But, the specs were more than adequate for the price. The only downside to this laptop is the 750GB 5400RPM hard drive it comes with. I actually purchased a Crucial 256GB SSD and maxed out the memory to 16GB's from Crucial as well. This baby hums now! It boots up in 5 seconds and is very fast! NVidia 2GB video card has great graphics on video, movies, and some games I tried. This model's motherboard allows for upgrading the processor to an i7 down the road if so desired. So it does not become obsolete as quickly. This model came with Windows 8.1 and if you download and install Classic Shell you could add the start menu back into it. The biggest drawback to 8.1. Something that I didn't think about till the laptop arrived that it comes with is a lock/unlock button for the touchpad. Many laptops today have the touchpad right by the keyboard and as you type if you touch the touchpad with your palms it moves the cursor and it affects your typing since you have to move your cursor back. If you know what I am talking about, this becomes very annoying. Luckily this laptop has the lock button which allows you to type without worrying about contacting the touchpad. Just buy a USB mouse and you are all set. 2 USB 3.0 ports on the left, 1 USB 2.0 port on the right, VGA and NIC, on the right, DVD/CD Burner on the right, HDMI on the left and headphone and mic connections on the left. No ports on the back of the laptop. Couldn't be happier with this laptop!!!!
I grew up using PC's. I've also used Mac's an equal amount of time. I have no real preference over one or the other but I disagree with the mischief that apple is up to by forcing people to get rid of completely capable computers because their latest, greatest operating system is mysteriously not compatible or unbearably slow..hmm . Their marketing strategy is brilliant, but the end result doesn't set well with someone in my position where I have to be frugal (aka smart) with purchases.. So in the end, it's about protecting themselves and making a good product bad over a limited amount of time.. What a wonderful way to make loyal customer$.
I am the IT guy where I work and there have always been an equal mix of PC's and Mac's. Since being here part time for 2 years and full time for almost 6 years, I have always used a Mac. Not really out of choice, but for design purposes and the requirement for Adobe CS. This is no longer an issue since the creative suite is available for Windows. I decided to switch. I went from one of the highest spec'ed i7 macbook pro's money can buy (with SSD) to this PC and I do not regret it. I immediately threw in an SSD with Windows 10 and this computer flies. It's very quick and capable of doing what you need. The combination of a decent i5 processor (dual 2.6ghz with decent 3M cache), 8gb of ram, the NVIDIA 920m, it does very well. Throw in a SSD with Win10 and say goodbye to waiting on your computer. The keyboard feels great and the computer looks good overall. It's not as pretty as a Macbook, but it ain't bad. I will most likely update this review later once I do further video/processor intensive jobs but so far I'm happy.
I am able to run games such as Battlefield 3 and Dragon Age Inquisition at low-medium settings seamlessly.
I have run into a few inconveniences, but it's nothing major. The laptop fan gets pretty loud, and it detracts from the audio. It does not have Microsoft Office installed, so you will have to purchase it separately, or use another device for work. That's about it. I will update this review should any drastic problems occur. As a side note, you can also upgrade the laptop to Windows 10, so I suggest doing so while it's free.
This laptop won't be able to handle high-performance games at ultra level graphics, but if you're looking for a relatively inexpensive device that brings a whole level of functionality, look no further.
