I love my laptop. It is user friendly, sleek and ridiculously lightweight. My eyes are sensitive, but working on this laptop versus my office computer, I've noticed doesn't bother me as much. A minor issue: the battery life could be better...it lasts up to three hours but if you are doing major work it goes fast. I do like that you can leave this laptop plugged in without damaging the internal battery. As soon as it charges to full battery power it stops the 'continuous' charging if you were to leave it plugged in. It doesn't effect me much since I use it at home. If you had to use it for work, I recommend buying an extra battery pack or packing your cord in your laptop bag. The keyboard is not back lit, but is soft to the touch, comfortable, and functional. For all the gamer nerds out there, my brother loves to use this laptop :)

Had this laptop for 6 months, battery is completely dead. I have tried everything MSI recommended to fix it to start charging again. Only place Incan find a replacement battery is in China and they so nit ship to the states.... Was great for my normal Network engineering job and light gaming on business trips.

I love my new computer. I have had it for about 4 months now. I am very impressed with its versatility and options. It's only draw back is that it says it has four speakers but only 2 seem to be actively in use. I am in the military and I travel a lot going to the field and back and forth to the US and it has survived a lot of airplane rides in just a few months already. I do wish that it had a removable or upgradeable battery. I expected a laptop with this kind of horse power to be a battery Nazi and it is. I get about 1.5 to 2 hours tops out of my battery per charge. If I am pushing it with gaming I can get only an hour out of it. So a larger battery would be extremely helpful.

4K HDMI( you have to buy the right 4K cable) and 4K Display ports
i5-6300HQ( only slightly slower than big brother i7-6700HQ) upgradeable
Bluetooth 4.1( provides excellent quality audio)

Meh/So So
1366x768 display( it does the job but who needs better when you have 4k outputs)
Speaker quality( I work in the A\V field in the military so I expect great things from realtek audio)

Con's
DVD not Blueray( which was pictured in one of the previous pics I read the datasheet from MSI and it was not include so I knew before I purchased but still it would have been nice)
Careful of the Windows updates (one update had me down for a few hours and I had to hard power down a couple of times)
Non-removable battery/low battery life

Okay, so I'm about two weeks into life with this computer and I'm feeling comfortable enough to review it. So personally, I'm a pretty heavy general laptop user. I'm on the computer basically constantly for blankly staring at twitter, running illustrator and other less intensive paint software, storing crazy large amounts of mp3s still and playing moderately intensive games. I don't play anything hardcore or new enough to require a full powered gaming computer, the most modern thing I've played on this has been I am Setsuna and it's run beautifully, obviously. But I can't really speak to how, like, Overwatch or something would play. It handles everything else great and it throughout the entire set up and installation process of my myriad of programs, didn't freeze once.

I do plan on adding a bit more ram at some point, it's not necessary at all, but I really enjoy being able to have a ludicrous amount of programs running at once. That being said, it isn't lacking at all. The hardware on this computer is fantastic. It runs great, plenty of storage, graphics are excellent, literally nothing to complain about.

Here are my complaints, and I say that loosely because these are not real problems, but only things to acknowledge in a review. It is built as a gaming computer, which is pretty awesome for power standards, but that does mean it has a pretty hefty fan system and even at low power with MSI Silent Option, it's a bit louder than most consumer laptops. Though, again, I can't over emphasize how little of a problem it is. I've had computers where the fan drowns out my TV and this is not that. If anything, it's super cool and ventilated all the time from it. So that's a plus.

Aesthetically, it looks like a computer from 2004, but slimmer. Seriously, it's pretty thin and light, I'm not sure why people are complaining about that, it's like 4 lbs. It's definitely not cool or attractive looking. I'm not impressing the bros in my classes with this computer. At no point, does anyone look at it and go, that's a classy, expensive laptop. If anything, they're like that is the most mundane black clam shell laptop I have ever seen. That's all it is. That being said, it's built solid, the chassis is plastic, but well built feeling, the hinges seem durable and it's built to be disassembled and modified easily. As someone who owned a touch screen prior to this, I cannot tell you how nice it is to know that if anything were to happen to the screen, it would be crazy easy to replace again. Same goes for access on the bottom panel. Only downfall is the battery is fully internal, which I guess is great for slimness but I really don't like internal batteries. But I've been forced to modernize, I guess.

All in all, this is a solid black clamshell laptop with a matte screen. It doesn't really have any cool or exciting features. But it functions beautifully. If you've been through hell with a super cool modern computer (like I have) and are ready to settle down with a nice down to earth reliable computer that can handle your life, this is it.

For $600, this is well made performance computer. Buy it.

Good Laptop, Atrocious Battery Life

I purchased this laptop because I wanted something that would allow me to do both office work and casually game while traveling. The laptop allows both, but in a fashion that absolutely requires it to be plugged in.

I am well aware that you cannot really game on a laptop without having it plugged in, but the battery life on this laptop is ludicrous. I couldn't even try playing a game on it using only battery mode because the battery died while doing only office work! Even on battery saver mode and the brightness reduced to nothing, I barely eeked out 3 hours of life on this laptop with a full charge to do office work. I was still on my first flight when the laptop died.

Casual gaming with the laptop is good, so long as it's plugged in (as expected).

Overall, if you have ready access to outlets, it's a fair laptop. But with the battery limitation, it's less laptop and more desktop replacement.
