Great motherboard for the price and performance!
To date, I've bought six of these motherboards and have had no problems whatsoever. These boards are simply amazing. MSI boards are one of the most reliable brands I've come across aside from Intel (who also makes pretty good boards). Here's a quick run down of what I use the boards for:
-mini database server
-DVR computer system
-personal desktop (home premium computing)
-a standard gaming system
Someone stated that these boards are temperature sensitive, but I've never seen any problems with that. These boards are simple to install and use and are priced pretty reasonable.
I purchased 4 of these and I am quite pleased with their performance. These are all-in-one boards so everything is laid on ... video, audio and newtwork connections. All is needed is the CPU (which normally comes with the heat sink and fan), and memory.
I built these motherboards up on Windows 7 machines, and all the drivers were automatically installed. So, although a driver CD-Rom is provided, it really would not be needed, if you plan on using Windows 7.
The CMOS on these motherboards is quite straight forward and allows you to configure the boot sequence easily under the advance settings so that you can get the OS installed quickly.
Another excellent feature is that there is a 9-pin serial port on it. This is still a useful port for those with specialised scanners and other diagnostic equipment. This is a strong plus for me. There is no parallel port (mainly used for very old printers) - so no loss here.
For avid gamers, a PCI-Express slot is on-board that allows the installation of a top notch video card.
Other accessories included with this board are:
- 2 SATA data connection cables
- 1 Molex 8981 to SATA power converter cable
- 1 Snap-in Case panel (for motherboard ports)
This is agood motherboard, be sure to double check the RAM and CPU slots before making your purchase.
The bios was fine, uses firmware from higher end boards so I don't have to worry about low-end-firmware bugs. What can I say, it works, no capacitors have popped so far, layout is decent, not great, but decent. One feature I wish it had was onboard RAID. I could turn it into a nice RAID-1 NAS if it had that, I don't want to use software RAID, and buying a RAID card defeats the point of getting a cheap board. The onboard Intel GMA 3100 video is a nice bonus feature, but lets face it-it's slow as crap. Onboard video can barely handle HD. Spend an extra $30 for dedicated graphics if you plan on actually using it like a desktop PC.
