Twin Frozr V - Cooler, Quieter, Better Gaming
With every new generation of GPUs comes more performance. With every new generation of MSI Twin Frozr, we give you less noise and heat! We've listened to all your requests and the new Twin Frozr V is smaller, features stronger fans, generates less noise, keeps your graphics card and its components cooler and matches perfectly with your MSI GAMING motherboard including some funky LED lighting. We've spent 18 months on the development of the Twin Frozr V, including field testing in gaming cafés to ensure the cards have the quality and stability to give you the FPS you need!
Traditional Fan Blade
Maximizes downwards airflow and air dispersion to the massive heat sink below them.
Dispersion Fan Blade
Intake more airflow to maximizes air dissipation to heat sink.
- Traditional Fan Blade
- Dispersion Fan Blade
Advanced Dispersion Blade design generates 19% more airflow without increasing drag for supreme silent performance.
Enhanced dissipation efficiency:
MSI has fitted Twin Frozr coolers with the all new Airflow Control technology which guides more airflow directly onto the heat pipes by using special deflectors on the heat sink. In addition, this exclusive heat sink design increases heat sink surface area, greatly enhancing the dissipation efficiency.
Enhanced dissipation efficiency:
SuperSU Architecture is the best cooling solution for graphics cards. The GPU is cooled by a massive nickel-plated copper base plate connected to Super Pipes (8mm heat pipes) on the MSI GAMING series graphics card. Additionally, the new heat pipe layout increases efficiency by reducing the length of unused heat pipe and a special SU-form design.
Smart cooling, stay quiet.
MSI’s Twin Frozr V Thermal Designs are equipped with ZeroFrozr technology which was first introduced by MSI back in 2008. ZeroFrozr technology eliminates fan noise in low-load situations by stopping the fans when they are not needed. Compared to other graphics cards, there is no continuous hum of airflow to tell you there’s a powerful graphics card in your gaming rig. This means you can focus on gaming without the distraction of other sounds coming from your PC.

Why did I choose the GTX 960? Well, I have a small rig and my power supply is only 550W. I really need a card that's not too power hungry and efficient. I also purchased this card on sale, so it was less than $200 with taxes and shipping. This GPU also came with a free copy of THE WITCHER 3. The R9 280x is a good card in its own respect, and it does beat the GTX 960 on raw power alone. This means that the R9 280x will get better FPS with games that aren't optimized for Nvidia. I decided that for my situation that I'd prefer the GTX 960, and it plays my games really well. My card is completely stock and not overclocked. I have 96 active mods on Skyrim right now, and the game runs very smoothly with a consistent 50+ FPS.
My conclusion is that this is a brilliant card! Purchase it and you will be happy. There are better cards out there, and if you're willing to dish out another $100, then do so. For us regular chumps who just want to play and not worry about covering rent, then go ahead and purchase this card.
Update: I still think this a good card! I've been playing The Witcher 3, and it can play the game quite well. No, you won't get a max of 60 FPS because the card just doesn't have the grunt for it. I have to play W3 at lower settings, and it still looks terrific. All other games I have (Borderlands 2, Skyrim, and Tomb Raider) don't have any issues reaching 60 FPS at MAX settings.
The computer is a reasonably fast I7-4770 on an ASUS motherboard in an Antec P183 case. I use it mainly to play Guild Wars 2 and Second Life, in both of which I have the graphic settings set to max for the 2560X1600 display. Even with a lot happening on the screen the video card remains inaudible. Only in the big GW2 boss fights does the frame rate drop below the range from 50 to 60FPS. It's perfect for my needs.
The card has been reviewed for performance in many places, so I don't need to do that again. Just assume that my performance is what you would expect from the system described above using a 240 GB SSD. It's working great with the setup described above.
I'll make a few points for those folks considering this upgrade. The stock GTX 555 used a mini - HDMI cable or a DVI out. This card has DVI out ports but it also has standard HDMI out, which is easier to deal with. There are three DiplayPorts as well - check the photos.
When placing the card into an X51, beware the power cable on the underside of the card. That's where the fan is. If you don't route the power cable away from the fan, the cable can jam the fan, leading to poor performance (at best) and a burned out card at worst.
The form factor is basically identical to that of the GTX 555 which came with the X51. The card is enclosed in a housing, the fan pulls air into the housing and blows it out the back of the computer through a grille next to the video ports. The card runs cool.
Installation would have been easy, but I screwed up the power cable routing that I described above. Once I sorted that out, it was easy.

Great news! Msi support was wonderful for me, no questions asked less then a week there and back (as the card should be arriving today).
Ps I'm starting to think the client it was built for might have had an accident of there own with the chip causing the problem. Either way msi took care of it for me free of charge and extremely fast!
This shows a lot for a tech company and will be the reason I continue to by msi products, Great tech support and long warrantys, this card carries a 3 year warranty! Thanks again MSI, keep up that great support!
