I've been using this laptop for work and play for almost a week. I did swap out the hard drives for a couple of SSD's but the WD Black hard drives that it came with are excellent.

The Look of things

The screen does wash out as you move away from straight ahead, but I knew that coming in from other reviews. The way I look at it, it's a laptop and how often aren't you using it straight on. Well, I don't do it very often, others may though.

The Camera works, I haven't tested it out much because I don't have much use for a webcam, but it does look pretty clear. Maybe it's time to start a video blog.

The keyboard isn't illuminated. It doesn't bother me, even in the dark. the screen is bright enough if I'm looking for keys, but for the most part, you don't have to look down frequently. The feedback from the keyboard is nice. Spacing is excellent. the big complaint on the keyboard are the wasd keys with red arrows on them. Quite an eye sore but it's not going to drop my score. I wonder if they have replacement keys for them? Time to send out an e-mail about it.

The touch pad works fine for me. I haven't had problems with it. It's been responsive when I've used it. Most of the time, I'm on a mouse.

Speakers are awesome. The sound coming from the system is clear and loud. You really notice the difference when you move back to a regular laptop.

The lighting is a nice unique touch. I mostly have it off, but it's nice to have on. The breathing effect really sets the mood at night for some games.

A Kid's Review on October 10, 2010
I can't say much that hasn't already been said in the previous review, but I do agree with most of what was said. I don't mind the red WASD keys since I often play FPS games. The red around the speakers is nicely done and not too tacky, in my opinion. I'm not a big fan of the color, but it has a nice, polished look. The LED lights are great, although I encountered a driver error and had to uninstall the LED Manager. If you run into this problem, a clean installation of Windows 7 64 will straighten it out. I recommend doing that after you've burned the recovery discs, etc., as you will most likely have better performance.

The system is blazing fast and I've enjoyed Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike and the Left 4 Dead series on the highest settings and they run smoothly and look great. I'm a graphic designer and the machine handles quite a heavy load of processing very well! The speakers sound great, and better yet - you get a great sound card built in that supports 7.1 Surround Sound.

My only complaint is the screen has terrible viewing angles. Older, cheaper laptops have had much better viewing angles than this. I don't know why MSI cut corners with screen quality, but I think it's shameful. Fortunately, I mostly rely on my external monitor and when using my laptop I'm mostly looking dead on. However, trying to watch a movie in bed with my significant other means the screen gets a little washed out for both of us.

If you can deal with the poor viewing angles of the screen, grab this machine! It is very powerful, more attractive than the pictures give it justice, and has some nice extra features (turbo boost, fan control, blue tooth, hd webcam, stereo mics, battery saving mode, led lights, etc.).

I purchased this beast a couple of days ago. Once more Amazon proved to be the one and only. Within less than 2 days I received my lappy, 6 days before estimated!
The machine is awesome. The combination of i7 with Radeon 5870 is killing. It eats every game I throw at it. BBC2, MW2, Black Ops, MOHA, you name it. Thanks to its turbo fan, the temperature never gets above 70 Celsius for the CPU, and 66 for the GPU. The fan noise is perfectly ignorable, and with turbo fan off it's pretty quiet. Almost 0 bloatware pre installed. Sound is the best in a laptop, with bass improved, really clean. The screen have narrow viewing angles, but again it's ignorable. User gets a sharp and bright image, with good colors and decent black. The only minor negative point is the keyboard flex, but it won't break or something, unless you hit the keys with your fist :)
It's a beautiful laptop, very well designed. Palm rest is extremely comfortable and has 0 flex. No fingerprints also, thanks to its texturized finish.
If you still have any doubt whether to buy it or not, buy it. At this price it's the best gaming laptop you could find. Remember that Radeon 5870 performs better than GTX 460M,and the MSI doesn't look like a brick, if you know what I mean.

*Edit (25 days of use)
The laptop is still making me smile each time I remember it's mine:) It keeps eating any game I introduce to it without a blink. Runs fast and quiet, and when it's loud it means you have a cool (literally) machine to play all day long, without having to worry about this monster called heat. I found a perfect adjustment of the screen through ATI Catalyst Control Center. I put color saturation on +120, brightness on -4 and contrast on + 10, and got those desired blacks and great colors.
