The MSI GX660 includes the world's most advanced Intel Core i7 quad core processor, which boasts superior multimedia performance and can retrieve data from Blu-ray disks or update online photo albums twice as fast as conventional dual core notebooks. The processor also comes with Intel's Turbo Boost technology, allowing you to power up or down as necessary, depending on the load requirements of the task at hand. Advanced graphics card provide a high-definition gaming experience that puts you right in the middle of the action sequences. Delivering full support for Microsoft DirectX 11, the GPU enables richer and true-to-life graphics performance so that you can enjoy immersive games or movies. Superior sound is made up of complex and interconnected elements, and MSI worked closely with Dynaudio to identify each one. After a thorough process of cooperative development, Dynaudio and MSI created four directions used to develop Dynaudio Premium Sound Technology. The result of this collaboration is the GX660, a notebook for serious gamers who demand extreme audio performance. Continuing the unique design elements of MSI's G-Series notebooks, the GX660 is designed to resemble a sports car hood. MSI's white logo is set in the center of the GX660's cover, framed by a raised a black diamond trident above a glowing red slash. With clean flowing lines and a beautiful black finish as a base, the fiery red lines represent extreme speed - both in the unit's performance and in your experience. With MSI's exclusive Color Film Print Technology, the GX660 has a glossy, high-end texture that is scratch and water resistant, it also serves as the notebook's ultimate protective layer. 15.6 Full HD LED Backlight LCD Display (1920 x 1080, 16 - 9 aspect ratio) NVIDIA GTX285M Graphics Card with 1GB DDR5 VRAM Blu-ray & SuperMulti DVD+-R/RW Combo Drive 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Bluetooth 10/100/1000 Gigabit LAN (RJ-45 Port) 4-in-1 C

The Look of things
The screen does wash out as you move away from straight ahead, but I knew that coming in from other reviews. The way I look at it, it's a laptop and how often aren't you using it straight on. Well, I don't do it very often, others may though.
The Camera works, I haven't tested it out much because I don't have much use for a webcam, but it does look pretty clear. Maybe it's time to start a video blog.
The keyboard isn't illuminated. It doesn't bother me, even in the dark. the screen is bright enough if I'm looking for keys, but for the most part, you don't have to look down frequently. The feedback from the keyboard is nice. Spacing is excellent. the big complaint on the keyboard are the wasd keys with red arrows on them. Quite an eye sore but it's not going to drop my score. I wonder if they have replacement keys for them? Time to send out an e-mail about it.
The touch pad works fine for me. I haven't had problems with it. It's been responsive when I've used it. Most of the time, I'm on a mouse.
Speakers are awesome. The sound coming from the system is clear and loud. You really notice the difference when you move back to a regular laptop.
The lighting is a nice unique touch. I mostly have it off, but it's nice to have on. The breathing effect really sets the mood at night for some games.
The power inside
The specs are the laptop are very sexy. Things that you may not know right off the bat from amazon's stats.
The cpu is a 4 core/8 thread processor. Surprised me when I saw 8 cores in my cpu gadget. Turns out to be the threading.
The ram is actualy at 1066 speed, not 1333. I was actually under the assumption that it was 1333 when I bought it. It's something that is unclear on most sites. I'll be upgrading to 12 gigs in the near future so it's not a huge deal but people should know.
The hard drives are Blacks, the high performance 7200 Western Digital Hard drives so you're probably not getting any better unless you go SSD. Hopefully they drop in price in the near future.
Overall feel and look.
I was debating between this and the Asus G73. Two things made me decide on this laptop instead. One is the Raid 0 capability of this laptop. The other is the look and feel. The G73 feels more like a brick. Don't get me wrong, they're both huge, but the G73 coating is more rugged while the GX660R is smooth. The G73 would probably require an 18.4 inch case. This one will fit in a 17in case, do not try to stuff it in a 15.6 in case, I really doubt it'll fit.
The black with orange lighting works well together. I'm not sure why the speakers are outlined in red though, nor the why the wasd keys are in red.
Hitting the turbo button gives it a small kick. I haven't noticed a huge performance boost but there is definitely added performance from it. The turbo fan works exceptionally as well. Keeps the system cool, but you will notice the laptop go from quiet to vacuum after pressing it. I'd probably only use it in really intense gaming while wearing headphones. The speakers would probably drown out the fan, but you'd probably wake up the house.
I'm giving it a 5 because it's a solid 4.5-4.75. The complaints are small and are not deal breakers for me. If it is for you, at least you have the heads up.
Best Audio for a laptop
One of the best bargains with the specs and price
Wireless Card does not support 5GHz
Could have used a better processor (check the new model)
In conclusion, I'm pretty happy with my purchase and I'll recommend anyone who wants a great laptop at a great price to buy the newer model.
The system is blazing fast and I've enjoyed Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike and the Left 4 Dead series on the highest settings and they run smoothly and look great. I'm a graphic designer and the machine handles quite a heavy load of processing very well! The speakers sound great, and better yet - you get a great sound card built in that supports 7.1 Surround Sound.
My only complaint is the screen has terrible viewing angles. Older, cheaper laptops have had much better viewing angles than this. I don't know why MSI cut corners with screen quality, but I think it's shameful. Fortunately, I mostly rely on my external monitor and when using my laptop I'm mostly looking dead on. However, trying to watch a movie in bed with my significant other means the screen gets a little washed out for both of us.
If you can deal with the poor viewing angles of the screen, grab this machine! It is very powerful, more attractive than the pictures give it justice, and has some nice extra features (turbo boost, fan control, blue tooth, hd webcam, stereo mics, battery saving mode, led lights, etc.).
