1.0 out of 5 stars Unhappy and out of work... Again... MSI
By Jes Killen on December 1, 2018
I work from home. I'm a 3D modeler/Graphics Artist and I cannot stress how upsetting it is for the price I paid for this laptop that not even 2 months in, it has issues. I received this October 16th 2018. Today I got "The Blue Screen of Death" as shown in the photo. Not really even 2 months yet. the fan is chattering so loudly that it's become an issue just being obnoxious broken sounds. I was out of work over a month waiting for this laptop, now I'll be out of work again trying to have fixed or having to replace something brand new. I won't be buying another MSI product. My last MSI gave out only 2 years in. I paid over $5,000 for that one. Another issue is the graphics seems to not be compatible with any version of Photoshop that I've tried. It crashes immediately so I had to just turn it off for PS and a few other things that are important to my line of work.

1.0 out of 5 stars P65 Creator 8RF White Limited Edition DO NOT RECOMMEND
By Lola's Household on October 16, 2018
Update 10/19/2018
Dropping this to One Star. Please read below and read the comments to understand why. The laptop, other then build quality / fit and finish, I like. After 2 rounds with Tech Support on a FALSE and misleading press release / MSI website, I have chosen to purchase a different laptop. Based on the experience with tech support, I can tell you that you will not get the support you expect for a $2,300 laptop.

I waited a week to write this review to make sure I gave it time to see how the P65 White Limited Edition performs. I purchased this laptop through, fulfilled by Amazon. This will be a bit long, take from it what helps in your decision. I gave the overall laptop 2.5 stars because despite the "issues" I list below, I can say no other laptop out meets what I am personally looking for in a business/gaming laptop. That is: Size (including the power brick), weight, graphics performance and looks (I don’t want a laptop that looks like a gaming machine). Also at $2299 vs the MSI GS65 Stealth Thin with similar specs, its $200 cheaper on Prior to purchasing the P65 limited edition, I considered the following: MSI GS65 Stealth, Razor white edition, Helios 300 Special edition, ASUS Rog Zephyrus limited edition and the Gigabyte Aero 15.

+Great size considering what it has packed inside .69 inches thick x 14” wide x 10” deep. Power brick is 5 ¾” x 3” by 1” thick
+The white looks great for us gamers that are trying to pass this as a business laptop :-)
+Light weight 4.14 pounds
+Play's every game I have tried without issue. I set all the levels to very high (max). The games I play are very graphic intensive
+Battery life is decent for the specs. MSI is touting 8+ hours however I am getting about 5 (ish) hours for regular business use (Power point, excel, web searches, email, etc.) for gaming I get about 1 hours 45 minutes on of continuous use. And yes MSI, I am using the custom settings for Meeting vs Performance.
+Coming from a non-gaming laptop (Yoga 900) I like the fact that I can turn on the built in intel gpu (UHD Graphics 630) vs having the Nvidia GPU on all the time. This in turn means the battery will last longer on basic use.

- This is a big one for me as I keep up with the news and I am contemplating returning the laptop pending MSI’s response. On August 31st 2018 MSI posted a news release about the P65 limited edition. I don’t really care about the wooden box but the suede sleeve bag and the additional 1 year of warranty definitely swayed my decision.

MSI debuting the P65 limited edition at IFA Berlin on the MSI "News" section of the website. It specifically states that the "White Limited Edition" model will come with the following: "Along with the grand launch of P65, the Prestige family is offering a global limited edition in delicate pine wood packaging. The package includes an Ethernet adaptor (PS42), double-sided suede sleeve bag for daily protection, and 1 year extended warranty service" global limited edition in delicate pine wood packaging. (MSI, I saved a PDF version in case you try to change it!)

I can tell you I received NONE of these items when I received the unit from Amazon! I did email MSI about it and even referenced the link to their website. I have not heard back from them yet. I will update the review when I hear something more. The box that the P65 limited edition came in was a nice card board box but not the wood box and no accessories as listed.

-Build quality fit and finish can use some work. I took pictures (may be hard to see, look close). These would not be big deals if the computer we’re not $2,299! gap near web cam left size is bigger than the right side, mouse in certain parts looks lower (not even), Vent area above the power button is higher in a few areas. All of these are not a big deal if you don’t look for them.
-USB connectors are not deep enough. Being that I travel and use this as a business laptop as well, I keep a usb mouse dongle attached at all times. I can see how the dongle sticking out too much could be a problem for some. (See attached picture)
-This is more a design dislike than a con. The top lid has a silver strip, the mouse has a silver strip that encircles the mouse. The vents, jacks, logo and MSI wording areall gold. Not sure why they didn't make everything gold.
-I knew this going in however there was not enough information to confirm or not. The motherboard is in fact still upside in the limited edition P65. Why does this matter? If you want to upgrade, add anything or re-paste the GPU and CPU, it will be difficult for the average user.
-Back-lit keyboard is white/blue and is hard to see. It works sometimes, other times it does not. I emailed MSI about this and I am waiting to hear back from them.

Does it get hot and are the fans loud? Yes and yes. When I game and the GPU is in fact working hard, the laptop gets VERY hot, as does the power brick. I don’t have a flir so I cannot check the actual temps but it is hot to the touch to the point I worry about the longevity of the components inside. When the fans kick on FULL blast, wow it is loud. On normal, its not too bad and is almost not noticeable.

Should you buy it? Your call. Depends on what you are looking for. For me, I may keep it as I do like it more and more every day. Plus I am a bit of a unique customer meaning I want it for gaming as well as for business use. I am waiting on MSI’s response about the suede case and 1 year additional warranty as listed in their press release. Pending that outcome, I will make my decision. If you have any questions or want me to check something on the laptop for you, please let me know. There was and still is not a lot of information out there on P65 White Limited Edition.
