Had a spare Core i7 930 that I wanted to put to use in a second computer, but here in early 2013, if you want a LGA1366 motherboard you are almost out of luck unless you want someone else's secondhand board (with the strong possibility of the attendant issues a used board might entail). I ended up buying this MSI board pretty much by default. I was concerned that MOST of the 1366 boards I had seen used more sophisticated cooling for the X58 and ICH10 chips...this board has simple and rather small heatsinks. Indeed, the other 1366 board that seems to be in abundance as a 'new' part is Intel's DX58OG which also uses simple heatsinks on the X58 and ICH10 chipsets, and there are legions of complaints of locking up and spontaneous rebooting that most users are linking to overheating of the X58 Northbridge. I had not heard of such complaints with this motherboard, but then again, I didn't find that this board sold very well either so reviews are somewhat sparse.

At any rate, trusting Amazon to back me up in the case of any problems, I bought this board, along with a CPU cooler (CoolerMaster Gemin II S524 with an optional 140mm fan) that would blown DOWN onto the X58 and the MOSFET's. When I received the board I removed the X58 and ICH10 heatsinks, cleaned the stock thermal pads from them, and used a good quality aftermarket heatsink compound to reinstall them. I've had no overheating issues and the heatsinks feel merely 'warm', but then again I've not really pushed the system as of yet. I'm hopeful that my choice of CPU cooler and the change to decent thermal compound will make X58 overheating a non-issue.

To make a long story short, I have Win8 installed on the machine.

I had often used MSI boards in the past..

Unfortunately, I do many things and am not often able to install the parts quick enough for the 30 day window.. Not Only, I hate waiting for exchanges..

The last two MSI boards I purchased were defective. Unfortunately, both were past the 30 day mark so I had to return them to MSI and then get an exchange. After of course running through all sorts of requested troubleshooting.

Once i received the new boards from the RMA department, they worked well.. I just really hated having to wait 3 weeks while I sent my board in and then received a new one..

Once i Received the new board, the machine booted right up and worked just fine.. The motherboard is solid and have had no RAM compatibility problems and I will give MSI that.. When they work, they work well and are reasonably priced.

The appeal of this board, as compared to the very popular Gigabyte-X58-UD3R, is that it will work for crossfire scenarios. Both the first and second PCI-E slots are double spaced and have x16 speed. That means you can fit two massive graphics cards and have enough breathing room between them. I should know-- I had to replace my Gigabyte-X58-UD3R with this board when I upgraded to a Crossfire setup using two PowerColor AX6970 (twin fan design.)

It has worked well, boots quickly, and has done what any good motherboard should do-- not bug me a lot. Bios is extensive and great if you want to overclock-- very similar to Gigabyte, really. The only thing is seems to be missing is an auto-overclock feature-- I miss that from my old mobo. MSI also makes it easy to connect all those tiny front-panel connectors onto your motherboard, too. They have a labeled plug system that you plug all the tiny cables in to first. You then place the nice and stable "parent" plug on to the mobo. Genius.

I really don't know what else you'd want on this motherboard. Maybe more SATA 6GB connectors would be nice? I have a blu-ray reader and a Samsung 470 256GB SSD connected to those 2 ports and it works like a champ, though.

The only negative is that the USB-3 motherboard connection is very difficult to install once the board is in place. I couldn't do it. Since I don't own any USB-3 peripherals, this wasn't an issue for me.

Working reliably even after nearly a year. No bad USB ports like what was in the much more expensive mother board that this replaced. I highly recommend this mother board. I've built, upgraded and repaired more than a thousand PCs.

At $116 I though this would be junk pretty quick. Put an I7 990X in it, got it up and running and haven't had any issues. Runs like a champ. I really like that it has a power button on the mobo so I could make sure everything work before putting it in the case. (USB 3.0 is awesome!)

Had to buy a new motherboard as my SLI GTX460 was getting too hot with my UD3R.
Thanks to the double spaced PCI-E slots I get amazing results. Most of the time about 65°C when playing games with SLI support. And maximum peaks at 80°C for the heaviest games.
Add USB3 & Sata III and you have the best motherboard you can get for such a low price!

Good board. Good price . It was installed in the main computer of a pro audio recording studio approximately two weeks ago and seems to be working well. The only problem (and I am not sure this is a fault of the motherboard) is that since installation , the drivers to the license key of the recording software are missing and have to be re-installed each time the key removed and put back in.Other than that - 4 to 5 stars.
