Lightning Ascent Features:
PosiLock AT Bindings
Our Posilock AT binding utilizes a two-piece urethane body that locks down tight to the contours of a wide range of footwear, making it our most secure binding for aggressive ascents and all-terrain stability.
Built into our Ascent series snowshoes, innovative Televator heel lifts conserve energy on the steeps. They reduce calf fatigue while climbing and help to distribute pressure across the frame, increasing traction and safety.
Small and light enough to bring on any trip, you can take advantage of the agility of a smaller, primary snowshoe in packed conditions, while adding 5-inches (13 centimeters) of flotation on-demand for deeper snow, or when carrying heavier packs (tails sold separately).

Now even more reliable thanks to new tougher decking, our ultralight snowshoes are built on a solid foundation of our advanced 360 Degree Traction frames and deliver a level of security that tubular frames simply can't-especially on traverses. Dual-component AT bindings offer our most secure attachment, while aggressive steel cross members and easily engaged Ergo Televators back you up with every step. And like all of our snowshoes, Lightning Ascents offer the all-condition adaptability of our Modular Flotation tails.

I would definitely recommend them if you are looking for a really solid set of shoes for climbing and adventurous snowshoeing in varied terrain. I am taking them up into the San Juan Mountains in southern Colorado next weekend and I can't wait to see how they work in some big mountain terrain.
I have always used and loved MSR snowshoes but these take the cake. With the Televator, extra cinch boot straps, additional horizontal crampons and the crampon "rails" now encompassing the entire circumference of the snowshoe instead of just 2 parallel tracks help make this the best MSR snowshoe yet.
Just got done snowshowing with these in Guanella Pass, Colorado. I have the 25" model and it was the longest shoe' in our party. The snow was 3' deep in parts and everyone had trouble floating. The best snowshoe in the world couldn't keep you on top of this stuff. However, the Ascents did the best job, everyone else sank all the way and I only went about 1/2 way down. I was worried about the material used for the webbing, but it held up well as I stepped on rocks and even hit it with my trekking poles a couple times. My only complaint about the webbing material is that it seemed to hold onto the snow more than the full plastic models, where the snow would just fall right off.
Hardy and light with a strong design make these easy to recommend for beginner through advanced adventurer.
Got my wife a set of the Revo's, but after trying mine, she wants a pair of her own for next season. I've learned over the year's that you want to purchase gear that you can grow into, so that you don't end up purchasing a set, only to replace it later. These truly are an amazing all-around set of snowshoes, that you'll be glad you paid a few extra $ for.
I've hiked a few of the Adirondack high peaks (NY) with these and they were perfect. The extra teeth on the outside provide additional grip for climbing steep portions of the trail and the heel lift cuts down on calf fatigue on the steep portions. I'm very pleased with these and would recommend them to others. MSR also sells replacement straps and a repair kit with a few bolts, etc. They seemed like a good idea in case something breaks far into a snowshoe hike.
