Got these on sale, $19.99 USD for a set of 6, so i bought three sets! My brother and I both needed tent stakes for our new Durston Xmid's (check them out they're awesome tents) and I wanted Groundhogs specifically due to all the great word of mouth reviews, and these things do NOT dissapoint!! All you need to do is stick them into the ground once, and try pulling it out by hand, and you will see the great holding strength of these. Drive them in at a 45 degree angle to counter against your tent and these things arent going anywhere! I've even tested them against some hard rocky ground (camping on the Canadian shield) and no bent stakes, everything held! These are absolutely worth the money. They're also lightweight!Because of the deal i was hesitant that these were genuine MSR groundhogs, but i got in contact with MSR and sent them pictures and they confirmed that they are indeed authentic. So no worries about cheap knockoffs, these are the real deal :DIf you're Canadian, and you see these on sale again, do not hesitate, buy em!! for three sets, at $19.99 USD, after conversion, taxes, and import fees, all came to 101.83 CAD split em and the cost with your brother/friend, and boom, you got 9 stakes! Cross reference that pricetag with Canadian stores and see if it's still a deal, i got this June 2024

    Got these on sale, $19.99 USD for a set of 6, so i bought three sets! My brother and I both needed tent stakes for our new Durston Xmid's (check them out they're awesome tents) and I wanted Groundhogs specifically due to all the great word of mouth reviews, and these things do NOT dissapoint!! All you need to do is stick them into the ground once, and try pulling it out by hand, and you will see the great holding strength of these. Drive them in at a 45 degree angle to counter against your tent and these things arent going anywhere! I've even tested them against some hard rocky ground (camping on the Canadian shield) and no bent stakes, everything held! These are absolutely worth the money. They're also lightweight!

    Because of the deal i was hesitant that these were genuine MSR groundhogs, but i got in contact with MSR and sent them pictures and they confirmed that they are indeed authentic. So no worries about cheap knockoffs, these are the real deal :D

    If you're Canadian, and you see these on sale again, do not hesitate, buy em!! for three sets, at $19.99 USD, after conversion, taxes, and import fees, all came to 101.83 CAD split em and the cost with your brother/friend, and boom, you got 9 stakes! Cross reference that pricetag with Canadian stores and see if it's still a deal, i got this June 2024

    I am pretty hard on tent stakes and tend to bend them. These stakes are incredibly lightweight, yet sturdy. I was concerned that they might not have enough of a groove to really hold the guy lines of my tent, but these are perfect. I’ve used them to set up a tarp cover for camping without a tent and also for my tent in rough weather. They were fantastic and work well in a variety of soils/sands. They are easy to remove using the loop. Looking forward to using them for a long time. Wish I had bought them sooner.

    I have had a set of V type aluminum stakes for years. I am preparing to do my first through hike. I wanted to make sure I had something that is both light weight, but also reliable with good holding power. These stakes are super popular. These Groundhog stakes weigh 2.95 oz on my scale (85 g) for all 6 stakes. That is the same weight as 6 of my V type stakes, but the MSR stakes are longer, the Y design provides more surfaces for grabbing the ground, and the tether at the top should also make them easier to pull out. I haven't hit the trail with them yet (waiting for the tent I have ordered), but I expect these to be great. I will circle back and update after using them.

    These steaks hold really well on the ground is dry and not too soft from being wet. The size and weight of these steaks make them really convenient to pack up and go.

    Might be a good idea to take some longer and different style stakes (12" steel or titanium nails for example) if the ground conditions are unknown ahead of time. Especially if not traveling too far from your vehicle.

    For those of you that are sick and tired of having to work with bent stakes, you're going to absolutely love these stakes. You can beat the heck out of them and they're not going to bend at all. When I was putting one in it hit a rock and I just kept pounding it (I didn't realize it was stuck on a rock), and it didn't bend. The top started to get squished in a bit, and the pointy end started to flatten a bit, but all-in-all, the stake took the beating without bending. In my 30 years of camping, I can't think of any stake that would have been able to withstand that abuse without bending. Also, the reflective cord on the end is nice when you're walking around the tent at night with a flashlight.

    Now, everyone here just raves about these stakes, and they are good, but they're not great, and here's why... Normally a stake would have a little hook on the end so you can secure guy lines and webbing with ease. Unfortunately, all these stakes have is that little notch taken out of it near the top, and that notch is REALLY SMALL! If you stake these in and try and secure the corner of a tent that has 1" webbing (which I think is standard), well, that notch wasn't really made for that and it's rather awkward trying to get it to hold. Once you get it in and secure it will probably hold fine, but it's getting there that's the problem. Guy lines are a bit easier to secure since the line isn't so wide and they can settle into that notch better (so long as you can angle the stake down low enough), but that doesn't work flawlessly every time either, and that awesome reflective cord just gets in the way. I noticed that I had to stake things down further than normal so there would be enough pressure from the webbing for it to stick and stay in the notch. If you don't stake things down REALLY tight, they'll just slide right off the stake with the stake staying in the ground, unlike a regular tent stake. I have to stake my tent down MUCH tighter than what would be considered normal, and it seems like it may cause a great deal of excess wear and tear on the tent seams. The guy lines are fine, those are supposed to be really tight.
    When you're ready to take your tent down, just pull the stakes out by the loop and they'll slide right out. That part works really well.

    These are the only stakes I'll use now, simply because they don't bend and can take some serious abuse, but they are a little difficult to use and to stake down the corner of tents. I bought 3 packs of 8, so 24 in total. I bought a tent stake bag from R-E-I for a few bucks and it holds 24 of these without a problem (but no more than 24).

    I use with my Nemo Dagger 1p, and my MSR Hubba Hubba.
    I always replace the stakes that come with the tent. I use 4 mini Groundhogs for the tent's body, and Groundhogs for the fly. I also replace the guylines with ones I make myself with 1.8 mm paracord and mini guyline tensioners. I cut the cord to size and melt the waxed ends outside to keep them from fraying.
    These stakes should not be hammered, they should be pushed in or use your foot.
