New to the Hubba family, the MSR Papa Hubba NX 4-person backpacking tent offers maximum livability for four in a tent that's light enough to take into the backcountry. The tent weighs just 2.67 kg/5 lb. 15 oz.-less than.7 kg/1 lb. 9 oz. per person-and packs up smaller than most 2-person tents. Whether your group needs to break up your Half Dome hike with an overnight stay in Yosemite, or you're planning a family camping trip in the backwoods, the 3-season, freestanding Papa Hubba tent offers plenty of room and livable comfort for all. Inside and out, the tent is engineered for performance, from the large side windows you can sit next to comfortably, to the optimized, symmetrical frame geometry that protects from side winds.

Setup is quick and you can break down or set up the tent under the vestibule, which is a huge bonus when you need it. All the poles, fasteners, and zippers seem to be of good quality and my experience with MSR is that they pretty much guarantee anything within reason.
It's fairly roomy inside, but I think this is more in the realm of 3 adults w/ elbow room. Not a ton of head space, but I prefer the stability benefit of a streamlined layout and the white interior and vestibule really give it a nice roomy feel during daylight hours.
Breathability is good, but obviously better when you have 1-2 people vs 3-4. The mesh and vents are really well thought out and maintain decent airflow in most conditions while the popup velcro tabs assist in this process.
As for durability, I don't think you can expect a bombproof shelter at this weight and packability. I definitely recommend the footprint and a bit of due diligence in clearing rocks, etc. before setting up to improve longevity. That said, I've been caught in some crazy weather a few times and never noticed any structural or stability issues whatsoever, even in 40+ mph wind gusts.
Overall, I can't really find anything I dislike and am really impressed at the design and quality on the PH.
Received tent with scuff marks and three small holes in stuff sack. Returned to Amazon same day. A replacement tent was on my doorstep the following morning by 9:00am. I am not a Prime member, but Amazon used FedEx overnight express to deliver the new tent. Five stars for customer satisfaction and shipping departments for the replacement tent from Amazon.
I setup the new tent at home and everything was in excellent (new) condition. Easy setup and take-down. I'll add to this review after I have used it in the wilderness.
With a digital scale, I measured each MSR Papa Hubba component as follows:
1) main tent body. 1,016 gr. 30% of total
2) rain fly. 740 gr. 22%
3) Red poles. 600 gr. 18%
4) gray poles. 380 gr. 11%
5) footprint. 370 gr. 11%
6) ground stakes (18 needle pegs). 175 gr. 5%
7) stuff sack & pole sleeve. 106 gr. 3%
Total weight: 3,406 gr (7.5 lbs)
Tent, fly and poles only: 2,722 gr (6 lbs)
This is excellent for a four man, 3-season backpacking tent!
A point of interest: MSR has changed some features of the Papa Hubba 4-person tent accessories.
1) The new stuff sack for 2016 does not include the end-to-end compression strap as did the previous year model.
2) the tent pegs included are "needle pegs" made of aluminum, not the MSR groundhog pegs shown on the MSR website. The 18 included needle pegs are lighter and adequate for most soil conditions. In very soft soil you'll want to bring a set of more robust pegs.
I consider the two changes as having little effect on my use of this tent. The poles, inner tent and rain fly are all very well constructed which is why I selected this tent over the Big Agnes tent. The MSR tent also has a more durable floor than the Big Agnes. At a cost of $444.00 this is a solid buy. I also purchased the $49.00 optional MSR footprint and setup the rain fly w/o the inner tent. Easy setup for rainy days on the trail. The inner tent can be setup under the rain fly without difficulty. Excellent feature!
I only gave 4 stars because Amazon sent me a damaged tent with visible holes in the stuff sack the first time (outgoing QA and packing issues at Amazon. I give the tent five stars *****
It goes up very quickly and easily. I have reservations about long-term durability but I will keep track of that going forward. So far, velcro is the enemy of the noseeum neeting on the doors. It will snag that fabric very quickly and permanently. It is also a very open tent. There are screen panels which cannot be closed. That is great for hot weather but not so great for high elevations and cool weather. Your intended usage will determine if it is the correct tent for you. I have used it in heavy rains at 12,000 feet and it remained dry inside - albeit a bit cool.

I only would disagree with the design fact, it has very big side windows and not really closed in high winds.
