Everything you need to bury your guns and bibles to hide from the government in one package. lol
I don't like that you have to use screws to fasten the first cap down. It makes this impractical if there is an emergency and you need to get to it fast. Then again, you're already going to be needing a shovel to get to it, so what more is a screw driver?
I also bought some cosmoline-like spray protectant and plastic anti-rust vapor strips to go along inside. Haven't used it yet, but it sits there looking cool.
It's a lot bigger than you'd expect from the pictures, but matches the description. Like a lot of others have said, it comes in a big obvious box that screams "I'm a tinfoil wearing nutjob and likes to bury stuff in case Hillary gets in". Luckily I ordered mine with a batch of other products and they all arrived in a big 2'x4'x2' amazon smiley box.
Impressed I decided to buy a couple more on Amazon. This time I wanted to really test it out. I took one of them and buried it in a shallow creek bed behind my house. I put it about 2 feet into the ground before the spring rains hit. I put 5 pounds of lead in the SAC to see if it would oxidize. The SAC was buried for probably four months and when I took it out of the creek, the lead was in the exact same condition that it was when I put it in.
The seal consists of what appears to be a rubber o-ring and when the lid is placed onto the SAC and the screws are tightened, the seal does its job of creating the barrier.
After buying this as a joke, I am completely satisfied and if I have items that need to be hidden in the ground, I will probably buy more SACs.
So why after all the ranting and raving I've done, do I give it 2 stars? Simple. The shipping method. They shipped this thing (directly from MTM) in a full color advertisement box w/ pictures and descriptions telling everyone (including the UPS guy) "HELLO! I'M BURYING GUNS, AMMO AND VALUABLES IN MY YARD SOMEWHERE! PLEASE COME AND DIG IT UP AND TAKE IT FROM MY LOONEY ASS!"
The first rule of OPSEC (operational security) is to be as discreet as possible with everything you do. MTM lacks the common sense gene telling them that they should be shipping these in a plain brown box; not a box with a Survivor Ammo Can Infomercial printed on it making the purchaser look like some kind of "doomsday prepper".
I'd certainly order this product again because of it's quality and pricing ($19.99 on 6/23/15). But I'm highly perturbed that they would ship it the way they did. The whole idea behind this product is for security and discreetness. They blew it when they shipped it.
If you decide to buy this product and it shows up like it did to my house (pic below, yes that's the box they shipped it in LOL!), please rate it below average. The company needs to know that they need to change their shipping method.
