Ellen Elizabeth Hunter has become one of my No. 1 authors! I actually found this series accidentally while looking for books by Elizabeth Hunter (2 different authors). I am so glad I stumbled onto these books. The main characters are sisters, Ashley and Melanie Wilkes, living in Wilmington, NC. Melanie, the older sibling is the Best Realtor and Ashley restores the old mansions in the Historic District while they solve mysteries and murders. Recommended reading for anyone who enjoys a good mystery with wonderfully developed characters who you end up caring about long after you've finished the book-lol.

This is a nice cozy mystery in a series set in Wilmington, NC. I spent many summers on the NC coast (being from the NC mountains we wanted to vacation on the beach!) and was surprised that there was a series based there. A pleasant surprise. Reads like a true southern mystery & makes you want to "head on up there!" Characters are set up well, the story reads smoothly & the ending is tidy. Lots of fun & a great beach read! I'm glad Harlequin is reprinting this authers books.

This novel was a delightful romp through Wilmington, NC's historic district as sleuth Ashley Wilkes, and her new partner, Joe set forth to restore "Moon Gate" a house of actress Tiffany Talliere. Tiffany and her brother, Auguste, now have the finances needed to bring the house back to it's former glory.

While beginning the restoration, Ashley and Joe learn the house was built on scandals back in the day. A guest is poisoned during an open house and Ashley is off to try and solve the crime.

The characters are enjoyable and the Author took a chance and dated the book by talking about real life stars such as John Travolta and Clay Aikens. This made the book far more fun to read.

This was a cozy to remember.

The main character is a smart, independent woman and her friends and family seem to be as well. Some of the events of this story don't correlate with the characters. I love the descriptions of character, setting, and events - I'm just confused by the jumping from scene to scene. There are also some ideas introduced that are left hanging in strange ways. I guess I must need to read more to find out how it's all connected, but I'm not sure I want to.

I really liked this book it captured the Southern way of life. The is so much history in the area and it was well used in this book. Ashley is very likable and you want her to be happy. Her work restoring old houses was interesting to me. Being a witness to what happens to Mindy, gets her into a dangerous position. I never saw the guilty party until it was revealed. It is a clean easy read and people liking cozy mysteries should like this one too. I had not read any of the other books in this series and it was fine as a stand alone. I will read the others soon.

There is a lot of humor and a good mystery here. Two southern belles are the main characters, sisters. If something can go wrong, it does. There's a few surprises along the way regarding the other characters in the book. I do wish she would not go on about how beautiful her sister is in comparison. She's no slouch from what I can see. But I do intend to buy the next book. I've read MURDER ON THE GHOST WALK also. Both are good reads. These are not predictable and that's what makes them fun and funny too. Reminds me a little of Evonovich's Stephanie Plum.

The third installment in this series is very good and has a very satisfying ending. Historic preservation is an interest of mine and this series cleverly weaves in historical accuracy into the mysteries. I thoroughly recommend!

Hunter has an easy-to-read style and a great storyline with Murder at the Azalea Festival. I loved her characters. Hunter did a superb job of imprinted each one in my mind. I'm pretty sure that I've met each of them, except the killer of course. I have to admit that the killer's identity was an explosive surprise. Hunter has a genuine talent for writing. I look forward to her other books in the Magnolia Mystery Series. In truth, I'd buy any book she authors because a talent like hers would easily cross all genre in which she has an interest.
