Product Description

Everyone's heard of (and heard) the MXR Phase 90, but have you ever experienced the sweet subtlety of the MXR Phase 45? With this MXR Custom Shop '75 Vintage Phase 45 guitar stompbox effect, you get to go on your own romp back to the days of psychedelic tone, when hip new guitarists were starting to rock out with a new wave of effects pedals. Perfect for groovy solos and far-out rhythms, the Custom Shop '75 Vintage Phase 45 is totally funky. No phony jive here like an LED or an external DC power switch - this out-of-site pedal is absolutely mint! It's even got hand-wired circuit harness with matching FETs, a Carling switch, and a CTS pot - just like the real deal!

The MXR Phase 45 is an amazing little pedal...
It's the best of the subtle wash/phase sounds available and I think it sounds better than the much more popular Phase 90... It has an impossible to describe smooth churn that makes open chords and full bar chords sound spectacular - it's a must have for any pedal junkie...

BTW:
If you're wondering where you might hear it - listen to Lou Reed Live Rock "n" Roll Animal both Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter never turn the MXR Phase 45 off... literally they leave it on the entire show... both of them (amazing) you couldn't do that with a Phase 90 - it's too much / not subtle enough

Enjoy...

First off let me say the pedal sounds amazing. It's a 2 stage phaser which means it isnt as thick and let's more of your dry signal through the mix unlike a 4 stage phaser like the phase 90. The phase 45 has a very nice subtle sound to it that actually sounds good at any position and is capable of getting almost univibe type tones with the rate maxed out. The next part i want to talk about is the construction and overall it's pretty much true to the original the only thing that isn't the same is the circuit board which is a pcb but it's design looks like the original solder draw one but it still hand wired. As for the components they are top notch, alot better than dunlop's regular stuff it includes the same carling switch, switchcraft jacks and an alpha pot, the only thing is it's not true bypass which doesn't really matter because I haven't noticed any loss in tone. Overall the mxr custom shop really out did them selves. One thing I forgot to mention is it can only be powered by a battery which doesn't seem like a problem to me cause I have had it 2 months with pretty regular use and have still not needed to change the battery.

The Phase 45 is outstanding on a clean channel or after distortion. I put mine in the effects loop of my amp. This is a 2 stage phaser. The Phase 90 is a 4 stage phaser. The difference is the number of concurrent lines of tone coming out of it as it sweeps. 2 is cleaner, 4 is more complex. My biggest problem with this Phase 45 is the inability to connect it to a power supply. I don't want to deal with batteries. I decided to send this one back and buy one of the modded Phase 45's that have a 9v power input and led light. Google it, it can be done.

This is the reason I got this pedal. My Vibe would take over too much of the guitar's tone and my Trem was a bit lackluster(not enough movement). This pedal gives you the movement of a Vibe without taking over your tone. I love both Trem and Vibes but sometimes I just want SUBTLE. I have a Phase 90 but it goes into the Vibey Swirly area too much. I call my Phase 45 pedal my "Fancy Tremolo".

Wayne it was the placement in my signal chain, but I found this pedal to color the tone when on. It was a sort of weak tinny tone and there was a volume drop as well. Also only having one knob was limiting.
