Only one operative has been awarded 16 purple hearts, and only one guy is man enough to still sport a mullet. In the 10 years since his fiancée was killed, special op MacGruber has sworn off a life of fighting crime with his bare hands. But when he learns his country needs him to find a nuclear warhead that’s been stolen by his sworn enemy, Dieter VonCunth (Val Kilmer), MacGruber teams up with his trusty sidekick (SNL’s breakout star Kristen Wiig) and an uptight lieutenant (Ryan Phillippe) to get the job done. The trio sets out on a rampage of utter destruction in this action comedy that’s so over-the-top, it “makes The Hangover look like Beaches” (Joblo.com)!
No comic explosion, but not quite a dud, no Wayne's World, but not The Ladies Man either, MacGruber does manage to pull off the seemingly impossible mission of expanding a 90-second one-joke Saturday Night Live sketch into a feature film. What's next: "Toonces the Cat Who Could Drive a Car"? In those MacGruber sketches, Will Forte's mullet-maned hero "makes life-saving inventions out of household materials" but always gets sidetracked as the bomb he's defusing ticks down to its last 20 seconds. Blown up for the big screen, MacGruber finds a bigger payoff whenever the film sidetracks from the standard-issue '80s action movie plot, as witness MacGruber's deranged revenge fantasies toward a driver who hurled a drive-by insult at his car. MacGruber's secret weapon is Val Kilmer as a megalomaniacal villain (his name, not appropriate for a family website, is a profanely puerile running joke) with a stolen Russian nuclear warhead and a grudge against MacGruber. MacGruber's somewhat less than A-team includes Vicki St. Elmo (SNL MVP Kristin Wiig), more into her music than into saving the world, and straight arrow Lieutenant Piper (Ryan Phillippe), who begins to question MacGruber's unorthodox tactics (one involving a diversionary stalk of celery is just one of the film's more jaw-dropping gross-out gags). MacGruber may not set the world on fire, but the insanely committed Forte, like MacGruber, will do anything, no matter how obscene, to complete his mission. Mission pretty much accomplished, particularly in a sex scene that is the most outrageous of its kind since Team America: World Police (albeit, thankfully, not as graphic). --Donald Liebenson

We laughed and laughed.
We were joking about it again and thought it would be fun to watch again.
On the second run through, some of the jokes aren't as surprising or novel, bit it was still funny. Not being in stitches kind of showed where the plot was thin, but with the premise, what could you want, right?
It is one of the better SNL spin-off movies in a while, it's just a shame that it didn't get enough money the first time around, so there's no talk of a sequel. I'd go and watch a second one of these.
Yes, the humor can be extremely crude and lowbrow, but what I liked most about the film is that just when you think it is headed in one direction, it throws you for a loss in a hilariously-surprising way. In support of MacGruber are his sidekicks played by Kristin Wiig and Ryan Phillipe who more-often fall victim to MacGruber's idiotic plans which aren't necessarily "plans" at all. Also featured is Powers Boothe, as the Colonel who tasks MacGruber with tracking down a lost nuke despite MacGruber constantly displaying that he doesn't know what the hell he's doing. As the "straight man" opposite MacGruber's clowning idiocy, Boothe provides some unexpected laughs, to be sure. The biggest comedic surprise was Val Kilmer as Dieter Von Cunth, whose straight-faced smartassery and occasional needling of MacGruber had me rolling.
MacGruber from behind him says: "You're gonna want to take the whole box."
One of several hilarious lines from this film. Loved it when it came out, love Forte in his new TV series. Looking forward to MacGruber two, which they have been working on!
Come on people, get this film and watch it..again and again and again! MacGRUUUUBER!
2. Things you will learn:
Source of Mcgruber's super human power
Reason he uses gadgets
Fabulous way to use Celery in everyday life
Non-traditional ways to use Turkey in a sentence
Should you see this?
Are you totally bored? Possibly waiting for a friend to get ready before you go out? Looking for a mindless way to spend 90 minutes?
Then it's a maybe. I spent $3 and it was good enough for my $3.
3. Really painful to watch. But I watched all of it.
Classic McGruber, the train wreck you can't stop watching.
Thought dead, MacGruber (Will Forte) is sought after by the US Military to stop arch enemy Dieter Von Cunth (a plump Val Kilmer) before he launches a stole nuke to the US Capitol. Along the way, he rips throats and makes a fool of himself accompanied by Lt. Dixon Piper (Ryan Phillippe) and Vicki St. Elmo (Kristin Wiig).
First time feature director Jorma Taccone (SNL Digital Shorts' The Lonely Island Boys) weaves a competent story--nothing new--but the movie is really moved along by the outlandishness and ineptitude of Forte and his interactions with his teammates (not to mention the instant-classic comedic sex scene).
All in all, you will not be inspired by MacGruber, but it'll make you laugh--what else can you ask from a comedy.

Just a really badly acted crude parody.
