This concert was recorded live at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on February 21, 1988 in London, England. The concert and money from sales of this CD was raised for the Royal Marsden Hospital Cancer Fund. Donald Pippin conducts the overture and orchestra. David Jacobs and Jerry Herman provide an introduction to this musical which failed on Broadway after 65 original performances but earned 8 Tony nominations for the original production. "Mack & Mabel" is a great musical like great films that are overlooked for accolades or audiences. "Mack & Mabel" came back again and this time in a concert with Broadway and West End Stars.

George Hearn and Denis Quilley play the role of Mack in their performances. There are three Mabels like Georgia Brown, Debbie Shapiro and Paige O'Hara. There are other performances like Frances Ruffelle, Stubby Kaye, the Stephen Hill Singers, and Tommy Tune as well. If you enjoyed the other "Mack & Mabel" soundtracks, you will definitely enjoy and appreciate this one.

Fun concert version of Jerry Herman's work; interesting to have the composer himself introducing the songs in the show. Quite a mixed bag of performers; several Mack's and several Mabel's -- each listener will have to decide what qualities they look for in the parts. George Hearn is a highlight in my opinion--having recently completed his run in La Cage aux Folles, another great Herman show. Worth a listen, but won't take the place of the 1995 revival cast recording.

Mack Sennett and Mable Normand worked together from the early days of silent film, up to the beginning of "talkies." This musical, especially in this concert version, brings all of that history to life through wonderful songs!

Fun show but this is not the greatest recording quality.

An excellent performance of this one night event. All of the performers were in top form and it was very interesting to hear Georgia Brown's "Time Heals Everything" and George Hearn's Mack.

A brilliant recording of a hidden gem of a musical. Debbie Gravitte belting out WHEREVER HE AINT alone is worth it! I play this all the time. So great!
