Perfect in all but one glaring way...

Pros (too many to list!):
Valk: excellent molding, articulation, fit, detail.
Super Parts: excellent design, very detailed. Fans will not be disappointed.

Con (just one):
Many of these early VF-1 releases are plagued by the notorious "cracking shoulder" problem. The VF-1J w/ Super Parts is one of them. I received mine without cracks, but they quickly appeared after a couple hours of VERY gentle movement (I was aware of this problem but decided to try my luck). Apparently replacement hinges are hard to source.

Verdict:
Get one if you really, really need one or just want a display item. Otherwise, look for a later release (several review sites have lists of "safe" valks).

Aesthetically nice model but...

First got the Bandai model of a transformable Veritech, very chunky and not much to look at but very sturdy. Then got the toynami Masterpiece Roy Fokker, a little loose in the the legs but easily transformable with no sweating involved although a plastic hinge on the backpack just broke from a flat fall. Wanted to try the Yamato 1/60 for comparison and out of the box it's by far the most solid aesthetically pleasing of the bunch, until you begin to transform it. First of all, there were no instructions and most every move of transformation takes a good amount of force thinking you're gonna break it getting it into Gerwalk and Battroid modes. All the solidity comes at a price, especially transforming it back to fighter mode as there are so many subtle movements required to successfully transform it most requiring a fair amount of force. This is where the problem lies. If you look at what is keeping this toy together, it's for the most part very tiny plastic cup pieces holding the arm joints together and one misstep no matter how careful you are and your Veritech's arm breaks off from the joint. It almost seems as if it doesn't want to be transformed as pain staking as it is. I'd recommend this if you're a masochist.

Watch out for shoulders

Beautifully made toy, but watch out for the shoulder joint around the metal pin. The plastic cracked on my first transformation, and good luck getting replacement parts in the states. Yamato USA customer service is not allowed to assist with Macross items, thanks to toy licensing legalities (thanks a lot HG).
That being said, the detail and design is truly amazing, and the rest of the toy is suprisingly robust and solid in all modes. The armor snaps on securely (no magnets) and opens up to reveal interior mechanical details. Transformation is only slightly more difficult than Bandai or Toynami valkyries, but that's due to the more elegant design.
The toy comes with loads of stickers, but the amount of high-quality painted on detail will probably satisfy most people.
Concerning price, this toy is only about 1/3 less expensive than the 1/48 scale Yamato, and given a choice to re-make my purchase decision, I would give some serious thought to the larger 1/48 scale version.

I read all the reviews and research a lot before buying this and was much much better than i thought. Very well made and the structure is not fragile or easily to break. Details are pretty awesome and loved transforming it into the different modes (Gerwalk and Battroid). The super parts add and extra, love the full super parts on the valkyrie. Looks amazing!!

Of course, this is not a toy for children, don't make mistakes. This a is a fine collectible for people who enjoy these kind of toys, know how to handle them carefully and probably intend to exhibit them on a shelf or something like that. I'm loving it and i believe this is my favorite so far.

If I only brought the Toynami brand instead of this one first!! Don't get me wrong but the Yamato toy is sub-par compared to the Toynami version!! This version has less metal and the plastic does NOT seem as durable. Transformation process is a little more complicated and tedious with a mix of fragile/caution mixed in at times. This would definitely be for a collector and not a version for kids.

Plus the packaging on the Toynami version blows the Yamato away.

Spend a little more money on the Toynami version, I guarantee it's a better value!
