Mad Catz G.L.I.D.E. 5 Gaming Surface — The Ideal Companion for Gaming Mice
Give your gaming mouse a place to call home with the G.L.I.D.E. 5 Gaming Surface from Mad Catz. Constructed from premium microfiber-covered foam with a high-grip rubber underside for dependable stability, the low-friction coating facilitates smooth mouse movement with effortless control. Custom materials and colors enhance your mouse's sensor performance to give you a distinct advantage over online rivals.
Optimized for Optical Sensors
Although the G.L.I.D.E. 5 works great with laser sensors, meticulous attention to the surface's material and design help ensure optimization with optical sensors. Optical sensors utilize a tiny camera which takes pictures of your gaming surface - - thousands per second - - and then analyze those images to translate them into mouse cursor movement. The precise weave pattern of the material coating the G.L.I.D.E. 5 ensures that your optical mouse's sensor receives incredibly accurate information, resulting in trouble-free aiming in every game you play.
XXL Surface Area
Measuring a whopping 317 percent larger than the average mouse pad, the double-XL surface area is ideal for gamers whose style of mousing is low in sensitivity. When you prefer to keep your DPI low - - and lots of mouse movement translates into very little in-game aiming movement - - an oversize gaming surface is a necessity.
Low Friction Fabric Weave
Mouse movement on the G.L.I.D.E. 5 Gaming Surface is 13 percent smoother than gaming surfaces constructed from comparable materials. Carefully selected materials coupled with an ultra-smooth surface texture promote flawless mouse tracking.

I originally bought this pad with the hopes it would solve that problem and I'm glad I did.
Some thoughts: I had read that the Rat 7's sensor tracks better on light colored pads, and perhaps that's where the real change has come here? I can't help but think that the properties of each of the pads might contribute to a difference in how each pad reflects back to the sensor. I won't suggest this pad may be best for all mice, but in my circumstance, the RAZR pad is definitely going in the closet for a rainy day.
I immediately noticed a difference on this surface. My mouse is more precise and slides easier. The surface is much larger so I don't hit the edge, and it is more comfortable on my hand.
I can't believe that I've always bought the best gear I could find and made sure it fit me and my style so well but I never paid attention to what I thought was a trivial thing. I was missing out but now I'm very happy to have found this.
Try it out and you won't regret it.
I will admit it is a little bigger than my space on the slide out on my desk so my keyboard overlaps the side by an inch and it hangs off the back but it is actually protecting the fabric wrapped cord on my mouse from rubbing on the wood and getting any more frayed than it was.
I have a 27 inch iMac. I do believe Apple does a lot of things well, but I'm not a trackpad user. I needed a mouse, and I quickly found out I needed a multiple speed mouse to control a computer the size of a small television. The RAT 7 was great for this. When they offered a $50 mousepad that promised to make my expensive mouse even better I thought I'd be investing in something that helps with my job. Meh, it's an okay investment. I mean I like it. It's far too big and kind of garish, even for my huge screen. But I will continue to use it.
The only consolation with this expensive mouse pad is that it feels like it will last a lifetime. It does not show a lot of signs of age. But then again, will I still like a giant red mouse pad in a few years? Maybe not.
I find that I get dirt on the surface of the pad that slows down my mouse, but that can be easily cleaned off. It's not perfect for every mouse, specifically the Apple Magic Mouse, which drags around. but I can deal. :-)
