I have always loved the look of madcatz mice very distinctive angry looking so after my Rat 9 wireless mouse gave up a few weeks ago i went looking for a new 1, now my son has the Rat 8+ which is a very good mouse drivers and software are great but i like WIRELESS so the only option was the RATAIR, also i liked the sounds of not having to change batteries half way thru a game as i did with the rat9 and also not having trouble of finding replacements batteries when they finally go bad.
So to the RATAIR, well its nothing like the RAT9 wireless or the RAT8+ wired, the driver/software wont load with windows 10 so your stuck with the colours just doing their own thing, the charging mat is big and gets very warm at the top where the lead plugs in, every now and again the cursor will jump 2-3 inches across the screen when moving (probably a driver issue), the mat on the charging pad is double sided but slips off from time to time.
So now i'm using the wire plugged directly into the mouse to to solve the jumping issue and going against what i bought it for WIRELESS!!!
Conclusion:- if your not bothered about wired connection buy the RAT8+ its a much better mouse with more customizable parts and LED colours and save yourself £100
- The finish on the plastic (left/right click areas, for example) is made of very low quality material. After just a few weeks, it's wearing off and it's turning into slippery/shiny plastic.
- The material of the mouse itself. Holy CRAP is it ever bad. It's made of plastic. Very poor quality plastic. All other premium RAT mice I've purchased have had a metal exoframe. Due to the wireless charging mechanics of this mouse, they probably had to go with plastic instead of metal. The problem is...they didn't alter the design at all. So elements that were created due to the strength and durability of the metal previously used, are now completely useless. Clicking on the side buttons or holding the mouse causes the support pieces on both the left and right side of the mouse to completely bend and push inwards.
- The middle mouse button has the absolute worst click/switch I've ever seen in any mouse.
This is a horrible product. Mad Catz may be back, but in name only. The quality that made me such a huge fan of the RAT line of mice for the last 7 years is gone. They're using the same molds and designing mice in the same shape as before, but with subpar materials and finishes. I 100% would not recommend this mouse. The RAT 8+ is also inferior to the original RAT 8, but is still a decent mouse. Get that if you like the Mad Catz design. But stay away from this garbage product.
Verdict - don't buy MAD CATZ AIR, by MAD CATZ RAT 8+ instead, 8+ is superb mouse, love it, only it is wired mouse.
if you like MAD CATZ, and want a wireless mouse, wait until company releases a new model - MAD CATZ DWS, same body as R.A.T. 8+, but wireless.
