Major League Gaming Arcade FightStick: Tournament Edition for PlayStation 3
Created to appeal to the serious fighting game enthusiast, nothing brings the arcade experience closer to home than the Major League Gaming Arcade FightStick: Tournament Edition. Approved by MLG and embellished with exclusive MLG artwork, this Tournament Edition FightStick uses arcade-quality components from legendary Japanese arcade manufacturer, Sanwa Denshi. Featuring a Japanese-style ball-handled joystick and 30mm action buttons placed to match the Vewlix arcade cabinet configuration, arcade and competitive gamers will feel right at home.
Authentic Japanese-style Joystick & Buttons
The competition-ready Tournament Edition FightStick uses high-quality Sanwa parts, the very same parts that are found in Japanese arcade cabinets. The Sanwa JLF is the standard in high-quality, tournament-grade FightSticks.
8-Button Layout with Additional Multi-Speed Turbo Functionality
Eight Sanwa action buttons ensure that every attack, shot, and combo is easily accessible. Multi-speed Turbo functionality gives two distinct turbo speeds that can be mapped to any one of the action buttons on the FightStick, and these Turbo settings can be monitored on the control panel and disabled for tournament play.
Premium-Quality Components with Genuine Arcade Layout
The eight-button Vewlix-style layout offers a classic and ergonomic Japanese-styled feel, while providing full access to an arsenal of moves. The Sanwa OBSF-30 action buttons respond with pinpoint accuracy and can withstand repeated use.
Controller Lock/Unlock Switch
A lock switch on the control panel provides the ability to lock out the use of Turbo functionality and prevents use of the PS button. No more accidental pauses or automatic forfeitures in key moments during tournament matches!
3-Way Joystick Switch
The three-way switch gives added functionality for navigating in-game menus and playing games from other genres, including downloadable titles on the PlayStation Network. Easily switch between functionality for the left analog stick, right analog stick, or the default D-Pad setting.
Heavy Metal Base
This is no cheap plastic toy; the durable metal base increases the FightStick's weight for a solid, secure feel when draining your foe's life bar. Easily unscrew the rubber feet to securely mount the FightStick to a table or other solid surface.
13 FT USB Cable with Internal Cable Storage
A 13-foot-long controller cable ensures maximum comfort no matter what your gaming setup is. Stash the cable in the internal storage compartment to keep your gaming weapon sleek and ready for travel.
Connects to the Console via Lag-free USB
Proven in and out of tournament play at the highest levels, the best players from around the globe prefer the FightStick's high-quality wired USB connection over wireless controllers. From World Champion, Daigo “The Beast” Umehara of Team Mad Catz, to many of the top eight players from the EVOLUTION world finals, the Major League Gaming Arcade FightStick: Tournament Edition is the obvious choice for casual and competitive gamers alike.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2013Style: Playstation 3Verified PurchaseAfter a lot of research It came down to this stick and a qanba q4. I ended up going with this one because the Sansa buttons and joystick are fantastic. They're silent so I have the freedom to play without making too much noise. The 13 ft cable is also perfect for living room comfort ability. I can pretty much be laying down and be able to play with this thing on my lap. Very easy to mod as well. Like most TE sticks there's adhesive so be careful. Great design, feels durable, silent buttons, 5/5

would be 5 stars but it only deserves 2...
My only problem was the shipping, the box was open when it arrived and the actual stick was filthy! there are also some scratches and dents... I was under the impresion that i ordered a new stick but i think i was sent a display model...
love the product, but deffinetly not in love with the supplier.
other then the POS condition of the shipping i have no issues with the product.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2016Style: Xbox 360Verified PurchaseTook a long time to get it to work on PC. Had to manually add the normal xbox controller as its driver for it to work.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2013Style: Playstation 3Verified PurchaseI just received this item today and before I was able to put it to use, I noticed that the blue and red mylar type wrap on the left and right side of the controller was damaged, scratched and looked like it had bubbled a bit. This isn't a huge deal but since aesthetics are a big thing for me and others when trying to sell an item, I opted to return the item and have a free replacement sent back. Being the awesome company Amazon is, they immediately sent out a replacement with free one day air and scheduled a UPS pickup.
***UPDATE***
I received a second replacement item and unfortunately it arrived in similar condition. I think Mad Catz may have some QA issues with this product. Functionality wise, the controller worked well but cosmetically, it was flawed. I hate to do this but I'm knocking this product down a star for poor quality control.
Now on to rating the product itself,
Mad Catz has REALLY stepped up their game within the last few years, the quality of their products increased ten fold. The weight of the controller is solid, the bottom plate is made of metal of some sorts, can't tell if it's aluminum or something heavier but it's solid either way. The corners, sides and top of the controller are plastic but don't feel thin or cheap in any way. The MLG graphic is minimalist in a sense, doesn't have the flair that the other SSF-IV fight sticks have but it doesn't appear to be too difficult to create your own from a Photoshop template if you don't prefer the simplicity of the included one.
The buttons and joystick are made by Sanwa Denshi which is the leading manufacturer of arcade parts, the Joystick tension isn't stiff like the ones you find in most american arcades manufactured by Suzo Happ, it's much looser, almost too loose in my opinion but it's all personal preference at the end of the day, I don't feel this would in any way affect the quality of the controllers responsiveness. If you're looking for a more stiff feel to the controller, you can buy different tension springs for the Sanwa JLF joystick.
The joystick comes with a square restrictor gate which can be easily replaced by the more traditional american octagonal gate: http://www.amazon.com/Sanwa-GT-Y-Octagonal-Restrictor-Joysticks/dp/B004AU0H4U
At first, I thought the curved orientation of the buttons would be problematic but in laying my hand flat over the buttons, actually found it to be a much more comfortable positioning.
The Blue and Red side plates are made of plastic wrapped in what appears to be colored reflective mylar. As previously mentioned at the top of my review, mine had a few defects in it that slipped past QA but I won't let that affect the otherwise spectacular construction of this amazing top end fight stick.
All in all, I'd say this is close to perfect, if I had to change anything, I'd ditch the plastic for some arcade cabinet wood like on the XArcade fight sticks.
I'd recommend this product to anyone serious about fighting games.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2013Style: Playstation 3Verified PurchaseI ordered this for a friend so he could play Street Fighter II style games. Although there are cheaper fighting sticks out there, this is the one many of the players at EVO use for tournaments. Both my friend and I have used this stick and simply love it. I used to own the original Capcaom fighting stick for the SNES back in the 90's and this has the same feel but much better quality. I plan to order a second one of these so I stop losing to him. =)
One downfall is that at the time of this writing there are no PC drivers for this stick. I found a website claiming they offered drivers but upon further inspection, numerous other sites said that particular site was bogus.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2013Style: Playstation 3Verified PurchaseAfter experimenting with the arcade stick, I realized that the "X" button only activated a fraction of the time that it was pressed. I returned the item and received a replacement. I have since discovered that the replacement stick has a similar problem. Neither of the sticks seemed "new" out of the box. Both had surface scratches and wear which seems to indicate that they were not new, but refurbished or repackaged, despite the $160 price tag.
It was my intention to pay the extra money to receive a quality product which I would not have to hassle with, but I have been disappointed.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2015Style: Playstation 3Verified PurchaseGreat Beginner Fightstick. A Little wear, which was to be expected. A- Rating. Pleasure doing business. Shipped Very quickly. Overall happy.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2012Style: Xbox 360Verified PurchaseBefore I bought Super Street Fighter 4 AE, I was worried that an XBox controller wouldn't work well enough. I was right. The game requires stick motions for which a thumb just isn't fast enough, and button combinations that would require a world-class heavy metal guitarist to perform on an XBox controller. After 2 weeks of playing with my XBox controller, I was getting some real medical problems in my right hand. (Look up "Flexor Tendinitis" if interested.)
After buying two of these sticks, things are much better. I can execute the moves I want to, when I want to, which makes playing the game much more fun. And I no longer worry about the long-term health of my hands.
I've never used another arcade stick on the console, but I spent the whole 1990's playing fighting games in arcades, so I can tell you this: This controller feels just like an arcade stick and buttons. It's sturdy - I'm not worried about breaking it.
The base is heavy and big. It works great playing from my lap, sitting on the couch. I don't need a coffee table or anything on which to set it. The built-in cord is just long enough to reach my 55 inch TV with a comfortable amount of slack. If that's not enough, I'd assume a USB extension cord would work perfectly well.
