Top Customer Reviews
This problem led to many teammates being shot in the side of the head and was unacceptable. I contacted the company about getting a replacement or having this mouse fixed, and was sent a replacement in about 2-3 weeks time. This replacement had no issues and I was happy until the 6 month mark, when the laser failed completely one day out of the blue. All buttons would work, but the mouse icon could not be moved. After researching the issue, this seems to be a common issue with the Mad Catz Rat 9.
I contacted customer support via email, only to be told that I shouldn't expect anything out of a replacement, and that there was nothing they could do except for suggesting that I purchase another mouse. I hoped that I was being contacted by a bad customer support agent and attempted calling the company myself. The first time I called customer support I was hung up on, the second time I was told the same thing the CSR had emailed me previously, that I was out of luck and that it did not matter that the mouse was only 6 months old.
I will not purchase another MadCatz product, and have recently switched to the Logitech G700S. I have had no issues with this mouse, and Logitech has a better warranty on their mouses, up to 3 years I believe. I would recommend that anyone considering this mouse steer clear and do their research before purchasing. Cheaper, more dependable options exist and they do have better customer service.
To replace the battery, you actually have to take the palm rest piece off of the mouse. So every day or two you have to redo your customization on that piece. Very annoying.
The thumb buttons are laid out in a way that makes it impossible to access them without adjusting your hand to hit the precision button. So if you're a gamer, you actually have to semi release the mouse to move your hand into that position then hit the precision button. Hardly seems like a good way to go when you're in a hurried situation like that.
Same situation for the sideways scroll wheel. It's placed under my index finger, so to get my thumb on it, I have to lift my index finger up a bit. Which basically makes it impossible to do both that and index actions at the same time.
The center scroll wheel is not adjustable, so for me the position is VERY awkward to get to. I have to crunch my hand up to be able to touch the 2 main thumb buttons and the scroll wheel at the same time. It's odd that a "customizable" mouse doesn't let you move the scroll wheel position.
There is no way I could hit that little button below the scroll wheel while doing other things. I don't see how that made it past testing.
The receiver for the mouse has to be within 1ft of the mouse or the delay is totally unusable. Which for me, totally defeated the purpose of getting a wireless mouse at all.
looks amazing, and its super customization is a nice idea. sad thing is that the batteries are crap, and you constantly have to hot swap them with no warning. to make this matter worse; most of the time swapping the batteries makes something in the wireless communication go goofy and it stops talking to the base, you are then forced to yank the usb cord and re-plug it back in to re-establish the link. this is a very bad thing for an expensive gaming mouse, and gets incredibly frustrating when you are playing a ranked game and are left without control for minutes.
Be a responsible gamer, buy a wired mouse and be done with it.
