Editorial Reviews

Peter Eldridge is a pianist/vocalist who is best known for his continuing roll in New York Voices, a vocal group he co-founded with Darmon Meader, which has recorded six studio albums, made numerous guest appearances, and toured internationally for more than a decade, with appearances at Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, and the Kennedy Center, among many others.

Mad Heaven is a collection of mostly original songs that could be described as sophisticated pop meets Brazil with arrangements reminiscent of Becker and Fagan. The instrumentation and background vocals support the compositions perfectly.

Peter Eldridge has been called 'perennially classy' (JazzTimes) and ranked 'in the celebrated tradition of melodic poets, most famously represented by such disparate voices as Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison and Steely Dan singer/songwriters who create catchy, beautiful tunes with insightful lyrics that are both personal and universal' (allmusicguide.com).

The opening prelude, "On Second Thought", sets the tone for a truly wonderful, sophisticated and haunting album by the equally sophisticated Peter Eldridge.

In a world where we all long to categorise music and put things in "boxes", Eldridge blurs genres and boundaries. In boldly doing so, he forces us to celebrate the beauty and power of good music. Who cares whether it's jazz, pop, R&B, folk or a myriad of other genres? What matters is that the content, regardless of its stylistic tendencies, is first and foremost musically beguiling, exciting and emotionally compelling.

Eldridge's voice is, as many agree, warm and brilliantly understated. The honeyed tones wrap around the listener and pull you into his world-a haven of witty lyrics, arresting harmonies, and captivating melodies.

"Mad Heaven" is a gorgeous and stylish offering from one of the great contemporary singer/songwriters of our time. Buy it, and celebrate the luminosity that is Peter Eldridge.
