I agree that the song choice could have been better, The McGuire Sisters' version of "Volare" drives me nuts with their mispronunciation of the Italian word "volare" and Rosemary Clooney's "Botch-A- Me" would not have been among her choice to add (she didn't like doing Mitch Miller's arrangements), overall I think that the song choice and original music merit the soundtrack as being at least a 4 star rating. For the people who are too young to remember AM radio, songs were always cut to the two to three minute mark for airplay. Therefore, complaining that Vic Damone or Bobby Vinton's songs being cut or faded out prematurely must remember that the song would have been heard by most people that way, and in that sense the MADMEN writers/composers are going for the authenticity of the time that is being portrayed.

This soundtrack could have been great like the show, but instead, corners were cut. First of all, where is Don Cherry's Band of Gold? The Bobby Vinton track cuts off abruptly. Why couldn't a sexy track like Esquivel's Mucha Muchacha have been included as a tribute to Joan, the busty office manager? This soundtrack is a dud and the original score lacks luster !

I found that the cd was very short for the amount of swanky music on the first season . I look for my cds to transport me back to the show but I found this cd a little like don draper.... Cold and emotionally unavailable.

I was looking for the arrangement of Shangri-La that was popular in the early 1960's. I couldn't find it as a single. The other music on this album is very good but was only interested in one track.

The songs matched up so well with the episodes in this series. They are evocative of another time, and the series would be very different if the soundtrack without this particular arrangement. The first song, "On the Street Where You Live" connects with nearly universal feelings. There is melody and meaning in these songs if one listens as much to the words as the tunes.

The composer for the series, David Carbonara, has distinctive tracks on this CD, which are more instrumental than the other songs. Some of these songs appear in other renditions so it's nice to hear the originals, like "Fly Me to the Moon (In Other Words)", a song which also appeared in the movie "Wall Street." Overall, a very enjoyable mix, especially for fans of the show.

This is some great music to just sit down and relax with, preferably with a drink.

I am a Mad Men fiend. My friends and I adore this show and every time I watch it, I want to smoke too much, dress in awesome vintage and of course, sip bourbon at work :) When i first put it on, I was into it. The first half of the soundtrack definitely established a fun mood, but then it seems to just tank towards the end. I can't say I am a fan of the extended theme song either. I still put it on in the background, but it's only after I've listened to other CDs that I liked better. If I had to do it over, I'd probably jsut buy a few of the tracks digitally instead of investing in the whole shabang.

Just received in today's mail. I liked the CD a lot....expecially the song used in the show's opening credits. It's over 5 minutes long. There are so many great songs used during Season One, it would be impossible to include them all.

The DVD for Season One has a Special Feature section, where the music director explains over a few episodes, how the music was chosen and the arguments among he and his staff about how to use it. Fascinating.
