Sadly they weren't, and now i have a pair of shoes that are barely used and too small.
Toes go numb after about 30 minutes of wearing, but hey they're supposed to be tight.
I would definitely recommend getting a half size up from what you would typically expect from climbing shoes.

Product Description

Following in Mad Rock's tradition of being an innovator, we've incoproated all of our next gen features into one shoe. We've spent countless hours developing a new a material called the Power Flex Upper which allows for a tight, glove-like fit WITHOUT the pain that is inherent with other performance shoes. By infusing a two-way brushed polyester material with our new Science Fiction 3.0 formula, you can get that performance-like fit with minimal breaking in. The Con series models are also the first climbing shoes to incoporate the use of a 3D molded polycarbonate midsole. The Concept 2.0 uses our AES-1 Midsole design to provide a stiff flex that never breaks down. The combination of our AES-1 midsole and 3D molded rubber concave sole creates a cup that you can use to grab at features like a hand. A hemp foot bed keeps odors under control while also minimizing stretch. As with all of our new 2011 models, the Concept 2.0 is manufactured with our new R2 rand system that increases heel and arch tension but allows for a more sensitive and comfortable fit.

True to Mad Rock's tradition of being an innovator, the Concept 2.0 is packed with performance-oriented features to make the most of your climbing. A new material called Power Flex creates an upper with a tight, glove-like fit but without the pain than can be associated with other climbers. Plus an innovative rubber concave sole creates a cup that you can use to grab at features like a hand. And to keep life more comfortable once you land, a hemp foot bed controls odors while also minimizing stretch.

I have been using these shoes indoors 2-3 times a week for just short of two months. However, I have only gotten them outside twice. I have a neutral, average-width foot. I usually wear a U.S. size 10. I bought an 11, and now that they are broken-in, they fit perfectly. To me, perfect means there is no space between my bare foot and the sides of the shoes, but I can still wear them for 2+ hours without undue pain and suffering.

I also have a pair of Mad-Rock Mugen Tech Lace 2.0 shoes. These are size 11.5, and they are a little bit too loose for optimum edging performance. However, they still fit well, and I can wear them all day with only minor discomfort. Thus, I suggest that anyone with a foot similar to mine in size and shape should buy a full size up.

I have been climbing regularly for 5 months. The Concepts are my second pair of shoes. They are the bomb for toe-hooks. They also edge well. They are good for overhung routes. They do a good job of protecting your feet in cracks. These shoes are easy to heel hook. It is possible to wear these shoes for hours on a long mulit-pitch route, but I think you could find rock shoes better suited to these purposes.

Overall the durability of Mad Rock shoes is very good. I got three months out of my Mugen Tech's while climbing 3+ times a week for 3+ hours a session as a sloppy newbie before they needed to be re-soled. Now, after two months, the Concepts show only minor wear. Thus, I expect these to last longer mostly because my foot-work is slightly less horrible.

    I recommend these shoes.

I'm a climber so I know climbing shoes aren't too comfortable. But these are VERY uncomfortable. However, they climb great. Not an indoor shoe. And, not a shoe you want to give a belay in. Best suited for paralell crack climbing since they curve your foot almost like a cupped hand. And great for very small toe placements with the shoe's tip like a talon. I give them two stars on their foot-crushing lack of comfort but four stars for their performance. It's a love-hate sort of shoe.

I had to reorder this shoe after trying on the size 9, and took them out to try for a day to see if they would be big enough. Sadly they weren't, and now i have a pair of shoes that are barely used and too small. I like the aggressive toe. The dual density sole is quite concave, so there isnt much room for bunching of toes, but the extra hard rubber lets you edge amazingly. The shoe is almost entirely rubber, so not much stretching. The molded heel cup is awesome for heelhooking and the rubber top is good for toe hooking. A great aggressive shoe.

I recently was trying on climbing shoes, picked these up, put them on and fell in love. I have never had a pair of lace up shoes before because I thought it was too much of a hassle, but after wearing these, I am glad that I did. Due to the asymetrical last and the downturned toe, it is not an all day shoe, but when you buy aggressive shoes for hard climbing, that is expected. What is not expected, or rather what is a pleasant surprise, is the amazing performance you get from these. They are great shoes for overhangs, crack climbing, or edging with the downturned toe. These are also the stiffest of the "con" series from MadRock. This stiffness means you can edge with these better then the other Cons, so if that is what you are looking for, definitely get these.
