Directv Fumble

I can't explain how excited I was about this purchase. Finally, for a reasonable price I'd be able to watch my favorite team every week not just the 3-4 times a year they are typically aired in my area.
This deal is incredibly deceptive and Directv has pulled a fast one. First off, I didn't want the Madden game which I played a few times then sold the next day. Last week was first week of football and I had logged into my dashboard about a week and half before opening weekend to make sure everything worked and bookmark was saved. I went to log in a little before last week ad Directv.com was completely down for at least an hour starting at 1pm. I called them several times and you basically have their product but aren't really a customer. Most support staff had no idea this existed as well as a manager who I spoke with after 4 different people. I go to the exact login URL and username and pw doesn't work and no email is sent to reset so I left feedback and spoke to Directv's Office of the President. He explained the website login was down but the engineers had resolved the issue and that everything would be good to go this weekend. I was glad this would be over and my anger had subsided after being screwed just the day before. The mobile app did work but why would I want to watch the game on my phone when I have a laptop and ways to get linked to my tv? Also watch every game Sunday doesn't apply to mobile because if the game is on in your area you are blocked. So if you're out running errands or somewhere without a tv and this game is aired in your area tough luck you can't watch it on your phone, tablet or laptop. Don't have cable and want to watch hometeam well tough luck.
So today I've gone to log in and same issues with website and can't get a pw reset either and to make things worse the phone app has an error too. They built my hopes up with this offering and have crushed them wasting me hours upon hours. Hope this helps as a bad streaming site is far better than this.

What A Bundle

Initially, I was going to purchase the standard Madden 25. But then when I learned that Amazon is promoting a 17 week trial of NFL Sunday Ticket for an additional $40, it was hard to pass up such a great deal!

My overall impressions of the game are similar to last year's version. Graphics, presentation, gameplay, etc. are all very familiar and unchanged. I just like the updated rosters and additional tweaks to franchise mode.

I was a little concerned about whether the Sunday ticket code was going to work for me because I am able to receive DirectTv service in my area. However, when you enter the code into the website, you are not required to enter any credentials or location whatsoever. So, pretty much anyone can use the code and get the Sunday Ticket! The great thing is that the trial version is for Sunday Ticket Max (includes the Redzone Channel). I am excited to watch every football game on my laptop (hook it up to my TV via HDMI cable) and iPhone.

Game is good, Sunday Ticket dysfunctional

Allow me to preface this review by stating I had no intention of buying Madden this year until the Sunday Ticket offer appeared. Other than the rosters, not much changes from year to year to warrant me dropping $60 on almost the same game year after year I typically buy every other year, or one every three years. Of the recent Madden releases, this one has been the most challenging to date if you don't use nano blitzes and 'can't miss' plays...which is a good thing. Far too often in the past I grew tired of the game after a week or two because it was simply too easy (or ridiculously hard) and there was no happy medium. The new precision modifier is great, and a long overdue addition. It's not as glitchy as previous Madden titles, but I can do without the CPU teams running the clock down to the same time after every injury as well as the inability to skip through some cut scenes (penalties come to mind, but there may be others). Overall I give the game itself 4/5.

DirecTV gets an A+ for the thought of including the Sunday Ticket package with the title for an extra $40, a steal! If only it worked as it was intended. I have the fastest internet possible, brand new electronics (Ipad, cables, etc) and have had MAJOR difficulties with the picture quality being a pixelated mess.

Week 1 NFL: All games were more or less perfect after a a few seconds of load time.
Week 2 NFL: Some games would cut out, freeze, but games were watchable for the most part, but it was aggravating when things would cut out briefly.
Week 3 NFL: Total garbage. Every channel was a pixelated mess off and on throughout the day, oftentimes audio was 2-3 plays behind what was happening on the field. DirecTV gets 0/5, as EA Sports has informed us that everything Sunday Ticket related is on their end.

So while I appreciate the effort and the groundbreaking idea, I can't help but feel duped that EA and DirecTV contrived this money grab to get consumers to pay $40 more for a game they don't want. (A simple look at ebay/craigslist/etc will show you how many people bought the game SOLELY for the Sunday Ticket).

It's bad enough that EA is just wrapping up settlements for their monopolistic control over the NFL rights and that DirecTV, while not in litigation, has done the same by being the only host of the Sunday Ticket for years. I guess they felt the need to band together and do what they do best, which is hurting the consumer.

I will not be buying EA titles or DirecTV at any time as a result.
