I decided to use my old PS2 for more than a DVD player recently so dug up an old Madden 04 or so. Having fun with that, I looked to see how far along this series went and see it ended with 12, so purchased that used for about $10 plus shipping online. The plus: The graphics are about as good as it gets on PS2 and many if not most of these players are still in the league as of this writing (2014), or at least they are in my recent memory. The minuses: Madden as color commentator has been replaced by Chris Collinsworth and there aren't nearly as many quips, insights and interesting asides, the music seems more annoying (though, music in general, was better 10 years ago), and the kicking is different. Also, there is a bit of a 1-second freeze between plays. I think the cheerleaders are gone, too. I agree with others on here that the effort EA put into this wasn't 100%. Maybe they knew it was the end of the line. But for the price of a used copy, it's worth getting this for occasional gamers like me who feel no need to get a PS3 or PS4.

I just bought Madden 12 for PS2 a week or so ago. It is very similar to Madden 10 (I bought 11 for WII, did not enjoy).

The good:
very smooth game play (upgrade to madden 10)
some minor additions to the game

The bad:
The rosters are ridiculously wrong. You'd think they waited to release the game to make sure rosters are somewhat correct, but they are not. Notable people missing (Vince Young, most draft picks for Eagles). As you can tell I am an Eagles fan, and they are missing many players for them and I'm sure for other teams. I spent the first 2 hours just updating as many rosters as I could think of-barely made a dent overall.

The worst:
Commentating. By far the worst commentating of all Madden games (I've been playing since 01 version). Collinsworth has almost the exact same lines from Madden 10, and his commentating sucks overall-but the other guy's is even worse. You can really tell that parts are attached together (AND HE BREAKS AWAY!!!! (sigh), for the touchdown....). Just horrible, horrible, horrible commentating overall.

I really like Madden games overall, but I just feel like the producers don't really give a crap anymore. I'd like to see some other NFL games emerge and make the Madden producers try again- even minor upgrades would be awesome. Get other guys to comment, and make them say more than 5 or 6 phrases.

Everyone that has given this game a bad review probably didn't play this for no more than an hour. I own a playstation 2 and the original xbox. Like most people i for one can't afford to get the new next generation game systems. So i still have my playstation 2 and xbox. But i bought madden 12 for playstation 2 and i enjoy it. Yes I agree madden over the past few years on playstation 2 hasn't changed much. A few improvements here and there and a roster update tossed in as well. But personal madden 12 on playstation 2 plays a whole lot smoother as opposed to on the xbox 360 or playstation 3. Yes the A.I. on the new systems plays just like real defenses on sunday. And yes it has all the new features and improvements in franchise mode. But for me personally i prefer playing madden on the last gen systems because they are still good systems and have a lot of good games for them. But back to madden 12. Alot of people don't relise that if you take the sliders for the A.I. all the way to 100% that the madden 12 A.I. for the playstation 2 verison will react and play just like the revamped A.I. on the xbox 360 and playstation 3.

For the unfortunate people who can't afford to purchase a PS3, and have to settle with buying Madden '12 for PS2, I feel sorry for all of us. I feel like I'm playing Madden '09! Where are the upgrades, if any? The rosters are so wrong! I caught myself releasing, trading, and picking free agents up (on basically every team!) just to update the current transactions that have happened the past few months. Not to mention, all the rookies that are missing. What a disappointment! The franchise mode is still the same as '09...and by that, I mean it's horrible. I was so excited to purchase this game, but I completely regret it now. Such a waste of money. If they were planning on keeping the same game as '09 (besides the roster changes, big deal, whatever), at least warn us so we save our money. I highly, highly, HIGHLY, recommend that you DON'T buy this game, for PS2 at least; I'm sure it's great on PS3.

So I was reading the reviews to this and the reviews were up and down with most of the people bashing this game and EA for not making a stellar product. So let's start with some of the things that I saw the most complaints about:

1. Rosters not updated. I know this can be annoying, but if you're like me, as long as the rosters generally have the right people on them you're okay. I know this game was made during the lockout, you really cannot fault EA's marketing for wanting to get the product out at the same time as they normally do. They did their best, and I give them credit for that.

2. The game is not like Madden 09. I have that game as well. Madden 09 is essentially Madden 08 revamped. What I have seen from Madden 12 is: larger players (much like Madden 03 or 05), smoother motion for a QB, fight for the fumble makes the game seem more realistic, and when a big tackle is delivered the screen shakes with the force of the hit which makes the game play seem more intense.

3. The commentary is like standard Madden commentary, somewhat choppy and somewhat not appropriate to the play being ran. On the other hand it was refreshing to hear the excitement when you have a man open down field. I would say it is actually better than the previous Madden games, but by no means stellar.

4. The music. Okay I think the music is never that great on Madden but I heard some AC/DC on there and KISS was playing as well, so I don't think it was all that bad.

The Ups:
1. The game play is some of the most smooth game play I have played. Prior to this my favorite Madden was probably 05 but this game I think takes that up a notch. I have played Madden on the 360 and well the graphics pop way more, the game play is rough and not near as smooth.

2.
