Product Description

Platform:Xbox One  |  Edition:Standard

Take your team all the way in Madden NFL 17 and put yourself at the center of your team’s Championship run in Franchise mode, delivering all-new ways to play and more decisions to make.  Driven by the most balanced gameplay yet, the deepest commentary in Madden NFL franchise history, along with fun and fresh ways to play modes such as Ultimate Team and Draft Champions, Madden NFL 17 is the most complete Madden…ever.

GAMEPLAY: Ball-Carrier Feedback System:  New prompts and path assist help identify defensive threats and recommend special moves to elude any defender.

Pass & Rush Counters:  Simplify play-calling on defense. Think you know what your opponent is going to do, but don’t know the defensive formation to stop it? Decide to defend the pass or run and let your defense do the rest. Featuring the most realistic defensive AI to date, grounded in current NFL strategies, all-new “Gap Play” puts your defenders in the box, in position to stop the run up the middle, while your zone defense delivers on pass coverage.

Special Teams:  Welcome the excitement of special teams back to Madden NFL.   The ability to ice the kicker matches the challenge in today’s critical field goal attempts, while new elements of risk and reward through trick plays and blocked kicks can now change the outcome of any game in one play.

FRANCHISE: Play the Moments:  Experience Franchise faster than ever.  Jump into game-defining plays, drives and situations that matter to you, speeding up your experience and delivering more fun. Is your team in a rebuilding year?  Get back to the playoffs and win that championship quicker with the all-new Play the Moments.

Game Planning:  Know your opponents’ tendencies every week, then pick the right drills to attack and counter those tendencies in game.  This new level of strategy delivers more variety and more fun when preparing for your next opponent, whether it’s a user or a computer simulated player.  Once you’re in game, expect to see a team boost for plays you’ve practiced, helping you earn that critical score or a defensive stand to secure the win.

Big Decisions:   Big moments come to you, with the right information at the right time.  Do you start your star QB with a lingering injury or go to your unproven back-up with a playoff spot on the line? Big Decisions begins a new direction in your career mode, delivering more strategy, more control and more fun.

Community Requests:  Several Madden NFL community’s top requested features round out Franchise Mode with the addition of the practice squad, full-player editing, and the in-game ticker that keeps you updated with scores from around the league.

PRESENTATION: Commentary:  Madden NFL 17 delivers our most authentic commentary in Madden NFL history with the addition of an all-new, in-studio team featuring Brandon Gaudin and Charles Davis. With access to the team year-round, commentary has been completely rebuilt from the ground up, providing players with unprecedented depth and analysis. With the ability to provide content updates throughout the NFL season, experience fresh and dynamic commentary all season long!

Cameras Focused on You:  New, authentic broadcast cameras put you at the center of the story, creating a more immersive experience from practice all the way to the Super Bowl.

Sounds of the Game:  In-game audio has never sounded so real, from hits to crowd reactions and everything in between. Almost every sound in the game has been re-designed and re-recorded at the world class Pinewood Studios.

My interest in Madden has waned considerably over the years. Gone are the days when I'd stand in line at my neighborhood video game store for the midnight release and play till it was time to go to work, wired on Red Bulls and Mountain Dew. Granted, I still buy it every year, become enamored with the new bells and whistles for a bit, and then quickly lose interest once I realized that the legacy issues that have plagued the franchise still rears its ugly head. Madden 16 addressed one of these issues with the DB/WR interactions and it was a welcomed addition, but it still wasn't enough.

This year, I'm happy to say that Madden NFL 17 is leaps and bounds better than any iteration of the franchise EVER. I subscribed to EA Access on Xbox One which allowed me to play the game 5 days early before release. The three biggest pet peeves I had regarding past versions of Madden were thankfully addressed in this game: A.) DB/WR interactions. Yes, they were implemented in last years game, but in Madden 17, they are on steroids. In Madden 16, receivers would be able to fight for the ball by pressing the "aggressive catch" button which would lead to some spectacular looking possessions. However, it almost became an exploit as even average rated receivers were able to pull them off with abandon. In Madden 17, the success of these catches are now tied to player ratings so no longer will you see a Wes Welker sky a jump ball like Randy Moss. Defensive backs are also given tools to counter these type of catches with a "play the receiver" and "swat" the ball buttons. The result are incredibly life-like animations with a sprinkle of strategy and a pinch of risk/reward that make the game very fun.

B.) Special teams.

Franchise mode is more or less the same from last year, just a few more things to do. It's ok. What would of made it great was adding in hold outs and off the field issues on certain players, and suspensions, stuff like that, but it's just more or less the same. The worst part of the entire mode is that once a player hits 30, their stats plummet, example, I had a corner back, age 29 with 93 speed, 94 man coverage, and 85 zone, the next year, age 30, he had 87 speed, 89 man coverage, and 81 zone, and it just keeps getting worse, and it's even worse for receivers and more worse for halfbacks, and it's just very annoying, I also don't like the older a QB gets, the less awareness they have, that's ass backwards if you ask me. I also hate the progression of players in this game, I had a superstar middle linebacker (slow, normal, quick, and superstar are all ratings to determine how much experience points a player gets and how fast they rise) who was never rated past 81, then he dropped to 74 once he hit 30 years of age, so they need to fix the progression and the age problems to make it more realistic and fun. It also locks up sometimes in franchise, but luckily the autosave keeps your from losing a lot if any progress.

The rest of the game is good, great improvements to game play and especially defenses, so I liked that. And I'm sure all the online stuff is better too, but considering I only buy Madden for the franchise mode and to sit on the couch and play with my friends, I'm giving it three stars because the game play is great, just wished that "rebuilt" franchise mode was actually rebuilt and not 98% the same as it was last year.

It's that time of year again! More football! Is it just more of the same or is Madden 17 worth your hard earned dollars? Well read on!

In a nutshell, I'd say, get a hold of this game and decide yourself. Play it at a friends house if you need to before deciding. While the jump on 17 isn't mind-blowingly better than the previous games, I'd say anyone who loves football and if you loved 16, you gotta get this game. I'm very very pleased and no regrets spending 60 bucks on this bad boy. Most people I talk to about the game said they would never go back to 16 after playing 17. That's how pleased most feel about it. Is it perfect? Of course not, what game is? But read on.

The gameplay has been tweaked from 16 and from what I've been reading on the web, sports games sites and critics alike, we might have the best football game ever! EA said they have more devs working on this franchise more than ever and I can say, the polish shows. While I'll mention a few of the bugs later, I'll say, it's a good time to get a football game.

Let's get to nitty gritty. The controls are still what most Madden fans will expect with some tweaks. They brought back the beloved stiff arm move and that was missing for awhile. It really adds to the feel of the game and has been asked by the fans to come back, and yes, it's back and you'll enjoy having it back! The blocking, passing, running, all very smooth and very realistic. The A.I. seems better at blocking and you'll be picking up those big runs in no time. But the A.I. defensively is no slouch, even on All Pro, I was working to get my yards. Some say All Madden is still a bit cheese for the CPU to win and I have to admit, when playing All Madden, I at feel at times the CPU cheats to win.
