Over the years, Summer suffered horrible things, that brought her to her new self (Sadie). This new identity and appearance helped to separate her from the horrific people from her past. Now a college student she is meeting new people, but still has to look over her shoulder and remain cautious. Then she runs into Miles on her dorm floor. But does he recognize her? She doesn’t let him close enough to build back their old relationship.
Then there is the fact that there is a vigilante within the Cory fighting crime and protecting Sadie. Sadie feels a connection to “V” and feels safe for the first time in a while. All the characters seem genuine, but are they? This read kept the readers on the edge of their seats wondering who was who they really said they are and if they are truly on Sadie/Summers side?
This book was awesome. As were the rest of the series. It was a must turn the page read no matter how long you have been in one position, and keep going until you get to the end type of series. It is exciting, sad, heart wrenching, filled with longing and romance, mysterious, and keeps you continually guessing about what will happen next.
I loved the book and series! Ivy Smoak really kept my interest from page one until the very end. Although there is a cliffhanger, it only evokes more thrill of the plot line and keeps the reader engaged. As opposed to some books that through a cliffhanger in just to keep you plugged into buying more books. This was brilliantly placed and help facilitate the story line
Parts that felt predictable were still just funky enough to stay interesting then BAM...not actually what I thought after all.
The format is amazing. The background, the letters, the 5 seconds (THAT is cool writing).
Overall just an awesome concept. Beautiful writing that really draws you in and has your heart pounding like watching a big screen thriller! Cant wait to start the next book!
It pretends to be a complete novel - somtimes abit slow-going,but that'saceptable. Backstory comes around very late - so for most of the time, readers are in the dark, why the heroine is really in such danger. that was annoying, as is the author just pretended to have a shimmer of a reason for the ausaults.
But then no part of the plot got finsihed, not even the love story plot.. Or discovering who one of the major players is. The author just decidd to cut the story. Maye she thought , she had anough pages wirittn. Or whatever.
Of course II'm curious. But I would never let me trick in buying the next part. And I will never ever buy another book of this cheating author, because I'd suspect to be cheated again.
Finding herself across the country, new to the witness protection program after finally getting help to leave his abusive home, Summer, now Sadie, embarks on a new life in New York where it was arranged to start a new life. But are there really eyes on her? Why did she always feel followed?
Just after arriving in New York, crime soared, and a vigilante is heralded a hero for saving lives and dispensing with the bad guys. He "just happened" to know where she was; good thing tho because he saved her from an attacker more than once.
Coincidence? Had darkness followed her? Were people around her truly friends, or on her attacker's list of helpers. He wanted her dead or alive. Were things happening to her random or planned?
Could she stay in New York while feeling all around her were in danger? Where would she go ... Was it even possible to escape? Would she feel safe with Any one?
I love Sadie/Summer. A character written so well, you feel her emotions, her fears, and her joys. I want her to be able to be honest with Miles (what IS the tattoo above his heart?). How long before she tells him who she really is? Is Eli really a good guy or is he a plant?
Fast paced story from beginning to end. Definitely recommend; wonderful suspense. Read in one day...not able to put it down!. Going to read Book 2 in this series... Right now!

The bones of the story are great. It captivates you and keeps you turning the pages. You just want to know what happened to Summer/Sadie and are rooting for a reunion with Miles.
Then it starts to get all a bit too unbelievable and far fetched. But even putting that aside I felt myself becoming frustrated with how long it seemed to be taking to get any real clues or answers as to where everything was heading.
You get to the end of the book at about 90% and are left on a real cliff hanger. I love a good cliff hanger but on this occassion I was left with a real dilemmer as to whether to risk buying the 2nd book. At this point £5 seems a lot and another £5 for the third installment again seems a lot.
I have taken the leap so I guess we'll see if it was worth it.
The author has a knack of drawing you in from the start. The hints at Summers past make you want to find out what happened and you aren’t disappointed. Not only to to read what happens to the young woman, but the emotional strain comes across perfectly. Who to trust, who not to trust, makes you, as a reader question everything. Who is the man behind the mask? I’m not giving any spoilers.
Character growth is portrayed well. Summer needs to adapt to a new environment and the author brings out all the doubts she has. The fears come across well as she ends up in turmoil. In fact, I couldn’t help feeling the the girl. A sign, I find, of a good author.
Pace is good, descriptions kept to the point. And told in one POV.
All in all, this is an easy read. A fantastic plot which keeps you hooked, yet, you don’t have to concentrate to hard.
Yes,there is a cliff-hanger, but I found myself so enthralled I had to buy the other two in the series. And can’t wait to co plate summer’s journey. I feel I’ll miss her once finished.
This is one I’d give a lot more than 5 stars too if I could. All done Ivy.
The story is ultimately about Summer and Miles who we learn at the beginning are childhood best friends, until tragedy strikes. Summer’s life unravels. She loses contact with Miles. The story picks up when Summer is 18 starting university and we begin to find out how life has treated her and get to witness the massive repercussions that follow. Her fresh start doesn’t last long and her traumatic past starts to catch up with her.
Much as I didn’t want to buy all 3 books, I found myself drawn into the mystery and really needed to know the ending although I admit I felt it was a bit unrealistic in places. However the many twists and turns kept me on my toes; every time I thought I’d worked something out, I found that i was wrong! Whilst I did start to piece some things together towards the end, there were still some unexpected surprises.
