Editorial Reviews

Recorded at the Victoria Hall in Stoke on Trent on July 24th, this concert marked Slash's return to the town in which he grew up. The show came towards the end of his 2010/11 world tour in support of his debut solo album SLASH. Lead vocals on the tour were handled by Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge and the setlist featured tracks from his solo album, from his albums with both Slash's Snakepit and Velvet Revolver and classic songs that he co-wrote for GunsnRoses.

I originally purchased this version (2CD/DVD0 thinking it contained the full filmed concert on the DVD that Slash was talking about on his website. Turns out, due to copyright issues with several of the songs featured on the DVD, they could only release the five tracks that are included here. The full DVD and Blu-Ray is available in the UK. I actually ordered the standard single DVD from Amazon UK. In case you're concerned, the disc is NTSC, Region 0, so it should play in most North American players. From what Eagle Entertainment told me, the Blu-Ray should also be Region-free. At least you know the full concert DVD is out there...just not in the format that we expected.

This live disc proves once again, Slash is the guitar god, but he is also responsible for the writing credit of some of the best rock songs ever penned. This compilation is not too different than the ones recorded and offered for sale at his shows last year on tour with Myles Kennedy, but Made in Stoke is a bit longer and more diverse. It's good to see Snakepit songs on here too; he ought to do a part II Re-Made in LA and include some more Snakepit songs. There are some lost gems on those two albums and with Myles singing they can bring the best out on of them. Night Train, Ghost, and Mean Bone are quite a way to get started, and ending with "Paradise City" is like being at an old GNR concert. Myles is such a great vocalist and he sings those GNR songs superior to any version ever heard live (Civil War, Mr. Brownstone, and Sweet Chid). The opening to "Slither" is awesome and "Watch This" is a great showcase of both guitar and band. Made in Stoke is one of the best live albums I've ever heard. I look forward to the next studio album. They're doing great things and making RNR.

I am usually not a fan of live material, mainly due to the parts where the the artist has the crowd sing. I'm paying for the artist to sing, not my peers on the floor. There is not enough of that to bother me on this album. I heard parts of this album prior to it being released, and I knew it would be worth picking up, and I am not dissapointed. The mastering on it is fantastic, the tracklist is excellent, and Slash, Myles Kennedy, and the rest of the band really nailed it on this night. It almost sounds like a studio recording at times as dead on as Slash is getting some of the parts of songs like Civil War and Ghost. I think the bonus DVD is alright, but as others have said, I wish it would have been the full show instead of the 5 tracks, but some are better than none. Definately a must for any G'N'R' fan or a fan of good hard rock n roll.

After five albums with GN'R, two with Snakepit, two with Velvet Revolver and one solo, Slash has released his first official live album "Made In Stoke" (many shows were recorded and available at concerts). This two-disc set traces Slash's entire career with each stage recieving attention. More obscure songs from Snakepit were played at the show, over more well-known songs from Velvet Revolver, which may not be to everyone's liking, but with only 21 songs to pick from, the setlist can't please everyone. Slash's rendition of "The Godfather," a staple from Guns N' Roses "Use Your Illusion" tour is a nice touch.

On this performance, each song song blends seamlessly into the next, as Slash's band make these songs their own, never seeming like a cover band. In his detailed liner notes, legendary rock critic Malcolm Dome seems to confer, noting that Slash and singer Myles Kennedy have "been able to reinvent the singer's back catalog." Kennedy, from the band Alter Bridge, is a polished and powerful singer and is able to add his own signature to these songs without ruining them. While Kennedy sang two songs on Slash's debut, he is set to be the sole singer on Slash's next album, which should be something to look forward to.

Highly recommended for Slash fans and rock fans in general.

Of course well all know about Slash's career with Guns N Roses, the Slash's Snakepit project and Velvet Revolver but as a solo artist this is Slash's first full length live album. Lucky for us fans it works as a retrospective of his work thus far, right up until his solo debut in 2010 with an obvious emphasis on his "Slash" album and classic Guns N Roses material. After the solo album Slash went on tour with Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge) who sang on the album and it seems that in Myles Slash has found the perfect partner who can sing just about everything and who completes him very well. I didn't know what to think at first because I wasn't all that familiar with Kennedy but after hearing Live In Stoke it's obvious that he was the ideal choice of singer and I must admit the guy's vocal pipes are impressive. I can't imagine anyone doing what Myles does and I hope the two of them stick together for a while. Made In Stoke was recorded in Stoke, England Slash's birthplace and it was a special concert for him, his first time playing in Stoke, some of his family was there and this is a document of that. I only picked up Made In Stoke recently and I've been missing something, it's definitely one of the best live albums I've bought in a while and one of the modern day live releases.

I was intrigued to see what songs Slash and his band would play, particularly from "Slash" since all the tracks had different singer it makes it interesting to see them performed by Myles. Well, Made In Stoke is an amazing performance and the setlist covers all of Slash's work. I love the energy of the newer songs live, Slash's solo album tracks are all excellent.
