The teaming of Mario Batali and Madeira Housewares to create a new line of 100% plantation teak cutting boards and chop blocks continues Mario’s commitment to the environment and sustainability. Madeira’s plantation teak is grown and harvested using responsible forestry practices; all of their chop blocks and cutting boards are made from the remnants of other projects, utilizing pieces that would normally be discarded or thrown away-virtually eliminating any waste. As teak is naturally weather-resistant , it is ideal for items such as outdoor furniture, yachts and spas, and makes it a perfect choice for the kitchen environment as well. Mario’s long-established career of implementing “green” initiatives in both his restaurants and product lines, and Madeira’s commitment to creating teak products for every conceivable job with little environmental impact is the perfect partnership; a full line of products that are beautiful, strong and sustainable.

The wood does 'hold' the cuts really well, and my knife has never stayed sharper. I've been using this daily for a few weeks now, and it still looks just as good as the day after I got it (after I had oiled it at least once!) With the irregular pattern of the end-cut blocks, it makes damage from regular cutting use hard to see, and I guess the architecture of the end-grain will help 'heal' some of the lighter cuts as well.
The thickness hasn't been a problem for me, although there is some occasional TEMPORARY warping around the corners. I flip the board upside down, give it a fresh oil, and it goes back to normal. I think it's because my roommate sometimes leaves it wet.
It does slide on the counter so I had it on a towel, but if the towel gets wet it holds the moisture against the board. So I bought a pack of small rubber feet for $1 and screwed them on the bottom. This keeps the board from sliding, and allows airflow to the bottom of the board so it will dry. And makes it a little quiter when chopping.
I would have given this board 5 stars if it had come with the rubber feet, it needs them.
Overall, I would recommend this board... It can't be beat for end grain teak.
I chose this over a Boos block (I've used 2 already) and it's definitely better build quality and price! Highly recommend this board.
