First, read the synopsis of the book…very attention grabbing. Heed the content warning! If you can’t handle these themes, this is not your book. If you like dark romance/erotica… Do not pass this book up! If you are on the fence, GET THE BOOK.
Now, to understand “The Estate.” The Estate is a network of criminals that are all under the command of Joseph. By network, meaning some units deal with drugs, another deals in the skin trade (sex slaves/prostitution), and all the other unsavory criminal elements. Joseph has set himself up as the king of his world. He is just straight up psychotic, depraved and ruthless without an ounce of compassion.
Even though Joseph is the ‘king,’ his son Aaron, is in charge of the business affairs of The Estate, the laundering of money and executioner of those who would dare act against The Estate. He finds his father deplorable, yet knows that he cannot escape the existence of The Estate, because he would be hunted down then tortured and killed. He keeps his hands ‘mostly’ clean of the crap that goes on, but he must play his part to make sure that his father doesn’t have him killed for any infraction. Joseph can’t stand that his son has been able to resist the depravity that The Estate offers as recreation and entertainment. So Joseph seeks to ‘rectify’ that situation by forcing Aaron to take part in the corruption.
Madeleine is a brilliant cellist and happens to catch the emerald eyes of Aaron Carmichael, thus sealing her fate and is kidnapped! She’s the pawn between father & son.
Reluctantly, Aaron must train Maddy as a slave, so that she will have the skills to survive The Estate in the capacity as his slave, with judgment being passed by not only the members of the network, but mostly his father. Their lives depend on it.
Here’s how it goes down…
Madeleine has lead a very sheltered life, but on the night of her very first performance in front of an audience instead of a sound studio she meets a fan, Aaron. She's thinks he's gorgeous, but at the same time she's very shy.
Unbeknownst to Aaron, his father has decided to surprise him with a gift for his birthday. Aaron has never really been interested in the slaved at the estate and Aaron's father has finally found the perfect gift. Madeleine. His father abducts her and presents her to Aaron at his birthday party.
Aaron knows this is all just a game to his father. He can't let Madeleine go for fear of both the consequences from his father and the authorities. He must train her to be a slave or risk the wrath of his father.
Madeleine is so shy from leading her sheltered life, but Aaron quickly realizes behind all that shyness is a fierceness he wasn't aware of. A will to survive and she may be his undoing.
This story was beautifully written. I could not put it down! I've realized I have a penchant for dark novels. This book ranks up there with Aleatha Romig's "Consequences" and CJ Roberts "Captive in the Dark". I absolutely loved it and would recommend it to all of my friends!
Maddy & Aaron
This book was incredible. It pulled on every one of my emotions. I read the intro book a year ago and loved it but that book was so damn dark that I took a while off before diving into the next. This one is dark, no doubt, but there’s actually a hint of humor in there to lighten it up a bit.
Maddy is kidnapped by Aaron’s father as a gift for him. Aaron doesn’t want much to do with his father’s business dealings and pretty much stays out of it as much as he can. When the woman Aaron’s been admiring shows up naked in his father’s house, he knows he has to do something to help her. Maddy is strong woman. She doesn’t seem to be at first, but rest assured, she will not go down without a fight.
Aaron is a decent man. His methods are a little questioning but affective. Some of the things he says and does are a bit harsh but meant to be perceived in a certain way by certain people. He’s working towards his own goal and Maddy being dropped in his lap throws a monkey wrench into those plans, until him and his bestie Xander can figure out how to incorporate her into their equation.
So, the storyline is captivating. The writing style immaculate. The characters are powerful and persuasive. The tension that Ms. Willis creates in the first book trickles right on over to this one. I was anxious and terrified to see where this one went. I was pleasantly surprised. Loved it!
I have read several kidnap type books...usually about some innocent snatched up to be sold into slavery and it always involves a Master and their co-horts. I generally really like a darker side of life romantic read (and YES, I consider these to be romances) because usually somewhere along the line, the captive will fall for their kidnapper or vice versa and then things get really complicated.
BUT what happens when the kidnapper is a sadistic, evil man and he has kidnapped a sweet and talented beauty as a gift for his son, in hopes that he will become "Just like dear old dad"? All it took was for Aaron to show interest in the gentle cellist Madeleine and daddy dearest took it upon himself to snatch her for him to keep.
An interesting, very sad and depraved story about a sheltered young woman forced to become something she is not, find the courage to join forces with the man she cares for and go up against a cruel tormentor and fight for her freedom.
Steamy, violent and heart pumping not for the faint of heart action.
