I have every issue of Madman Atomic Comics published so far and will continue to buy them, but I can't help but yearn for the old days. The new stories have the same characters, but most of them are there for the sake of saying they made an appearance.
The familiar voice and soap opera drama is gone as each issue is more of a self-contained adventure that is plotted out with a different style each issue. Innovation seems to be the name of the game now, "Let's do something different". WHY? What you were doing was fresh and innovative in and of itself.
I would recommend reading and re-reading "Madman: Gargantua" if you really want to care about the characters. Only then will you realize why the Madman universe is such a fan favorite.
One episode involves the weird material transferium and what happens when Joe helps a bit of it get exposed to the world. In another adventure, Frank and the Atomics (those evil beatnicks who once fought Frank but have now become his super-powered accomplices) have conversation as they fight weird alien fish-lip snake creatures who want to devour a knocked-out It Girl, and they stretch a battle all across town, another adventure caused by Curious Frank using science he doesn't understand. Check out the Jay And Silent Bob's Secret Stash bookstore that they swing past in their battles.Read more ›
I highly recommend it. For long time Madman's readers this book will tell the story of the four but no exactly as you expected it, maybe.
