I happened to see this show in LA after missing the NYC series. Now why that show wasn't recorded for DVD/Blu-Ray is beyond me: it was a day or so after Obama won the Presidency and all the Prop 8 protests (which Madonna candidly spoke about), plus Britney came out for 'Human Nature' and Justin for '4 Minutes' (it didn't get better than that). But watching it again since they showed it on EPIX back in October (it's still on my DVR and sadly I watch it at least twice a month LOL) made me really realize how good of a show this was.

'Sticky & Sweet' wasn't a serious show--not a message show like 'Confessions' or 'Re-Invention' with dark undertones--it was just a fun show, a really good time. Lots of color, lots of choreography, and lots of energy and interaction with Madonna and the audience unlike I've ever seen her do in the past. When you see the expressions on the fans' faces and the performers you will ultimately get that. I'm half this woman's age and she showed that she can keep up with the youngins in the game today like it's nothing--she did it so effortlessly and it didn't look like she had to try much. I mean, I've seen her many times before and usually by the end it feels like a club atmosphere and people are in the aisles losing it and letting loose, but it felt like a club, house party, or block party the entire night. It was very much in the vein of festival style. I've never danced at a Madonna show really until this one and had such a genuinely good time.

My favorite number hands down was 'Vogue 2008' where she incorporated the '4 Minutes' beat. Sick. The staging and costuming was remniscent of 'The Girlie Show' tour. I loved the portion of the show where everyone was dressed in NYC B-boy style from the 80s, it was such a throwback and I gained even more respect for her showing respect to the Hip-Hop community that paved the way for dance and rap, and doing it well might I add with all the old-school samples that were mixed into her classic songs. Since the cylinder screens above the second stage were damaged at the LA show (light bulb: could this be why LA wasn't filmed?), it was nice to see on this what songs like 'Rain' and 'Devil Wouldn't Recognize You' were supposed to look like visually.

I have nothing bad to say about this, other than the fact that this Blu-Ray is listed as including the 13-track CD like the DVD, which it does not (I of course bought both since I'm a fan but others may want to take heed if you're not as loyal as I am, I think Amazon goofed on this). I did get annoyed with some of the cut-aways and how they would slow down some of the sequences and jazz them up a bit but it wasn't anything major. I think the behind-the-scenes featurette was probably the best I've ever seen from her, I don't think I've smiled so much. We all know she's gotten alot of BS in the past in terms of her attitude or whatever, but these were some of the most genuine and candid moments I've seen that really show her human side: from her work ethic to her heart (the speech she gave to the crew in the prayer circle the night in San Diego when Obama won the election even got me a little misty). It's a really good companion piece to the tour.

This tour showed Madonna at her finest, vocally and aesthetically.

Can't wait for the next tour!

The woman just never stops. I absolutely loved this show and I could watch it over and over. My favorite performances include:

1) Vogue 2008 - I never understood the appeal of S&M until this performance. I loved the choreography, the backdrop, and the dancers--they are definitely easy on the eyes. M knows how to pick 'em!

2) Into the Groove - Only Madonna could jump rope and double dutch on stage and make it badass. Forget the risk of messing up or falling or something. She owned this set. The amount of energy she puts into it was ridiculous. I'm half her age and know I would have wanted to pass out. The remix was also excellent.

3) La Isla Bonita - Again, another incredible remix with amazing energy, color and choreography. It's one huge celebration on stage and the amount of happiness is infectious.

Honorable mentions:

4) Music - I hated this song as a single, but the choreography, costumes, staging and colors, along with the remixed track was the shiznit. It was a very urban feel, which was for the better.

5) Like a Prayer - I LOVED the sound of the remix as well as the use of the screen with all of the fonts. The choreography alludes to religious undertones that you feel with the song as well so it fit perfectly.

6) Miles Away - there were AMAZING shots of the crowd and you could really feel how connected they were to Madonna. Watching tens of thousands clapping in unison for one person still gives me chills.

I also enjoyed the Behind the Scenes feature and wish that it was longer. I would have loved to see more of her her selection process for her dancers, but you get to see her joking around with the cast and crew as well as Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, and Pharrell. It's a very human side of her that we don't get to see very often.

There are some slow moments, but overall it was a fantastic show and The Queen of Pop proves once again why her tours have grossed over $1 billion. She is a master showman and a master professional and she doesn't even look close to winding down. I can't wait for her next tour!

I personally attended this concert in Paris in 2008. The sound was out of control, featuring a very heavy annoying bassline. I was sure they WB would heavily edit the sound for the Blue-Ray release so they did. The sound quality on the Blue-Ray is simply amazing, crystal clear.

Now to the setlist - I am not a big fan of her Hard Candy at all, in fact, I do believe it's the laziest Madonna production since 1989. So keeping that in mind and having Hard Candy songs heavily included into the setlist, I knew I would be skipping a lit of songs on this Blue-Ray. Although, I did enjoy the raunchy opening act Candy Shop, having Madonna repeatedly say "my sugar is sweet"...any idea what she is referring to??:-) The whole concept of the S&S Tour was a departure from the hi-end Madonna shows, featuring amazing screen videos and remixes, including choreography and outfits as well. Madonna's musical producer did a very poor job remaking the songs, without any creativity and real work involved. As a result, we get bizarre sounding old songs, pretending to sound upbeat and clubby. So, I have been skipping most of the songs even the first time I got the blue-ray, including:

Human Nature
Vogue 2008 (can't stand the 4 minutes beat used)
Die Another Day 2008 (speeded up poor remix)
Into The Groove 2008
She's Not Me
Music 2008
Rain/Here Comes The Rain Again
Devil Wouldn't Recognize You
La Isla Bonita Medley
Me Darava/Doli Doli
Get Stupid Medley
4 Minutes feat. Justin Timberlake and Timbaland
Like A Prayer 2008
Ray Of Light
Like A Virgin
Hung Up Medley
Give It 2 Me

My personal highlights of the show include:

Candy Shop Medley
Beat Goes On Medley
Spanish Lesson
Miles Away
You Must Love Me
Don't Cry For Me Argentina

But are these six favorites really enough for me and the whole concert?? Not really! Another disappointment during the show was Madonna's attempt to have the audience sing along with her, so she ended up ruining many songs, especially amazing Miles Away, desperately shouting several times. In fact, the audience really did an amazing job towards the end of Miles Away, making it so special for all of us. That's the way to go for it, instead of having the crowed sing along to every damn song...that's how you have a highlight of the show, when everybody in the audience does it deep from the heart. My very special compliments go to the audience of Buenos Aires - what an amazing and great looking bunch of people. Now I really understand why Madonna is not going back to Australia - seeing the dead and bored audience in the Girlie Show makes my heart bleed!

Now Madonna's outfits - Candy Shop outfit did rock...she looked amazing but towards the end of Beat Goes on she takes most of the stuff off and looks embarrassing...Yes, she is in a great shape but still looks awful with no dress on...Old school outfits were horrifying, especially those ugly shorts and tops! Her outfit during Spanish Lessons was really sexy and made her look sizzling hot and youthful. Do not expect any close-up shots on this DVD...nothing like several beautiful closeups on Confessions DVD. Good thing is that Akerlund did not edit and ruin this concert!

The dancers...tour by tour Madonna dancers get uglier and scarier. I should really mention that few female dancers looked fantastic but boy, the guys were ugly! Remember her dancers during DWT and RIT - yeah, that was something...I don't know what she has in mind when she picks them up.

Vocals...she did a good job singing most of the songs live this time as well, plus I do disagree with most of the reviewers saying that her voice was very much re-edited for the DVD.

So what's the next...hopefully no more collaboration with Timbaland/Timberlake and Britney Spears look alikes, no haste tour productions and good quality music and performances - that's what Madonna has been doing for decades and I see no reason for quitting...

I became a Madonna fan back in 1988 when I rented out the Ciao Italia video, from the 1987 Who's That Girl Tour; what impressed me, aside of course from all the unforgettable hits she performed, were two things: one - the incredible energy she had on stage and how easily she would get the audience going and two - the way she and her band were able to translate the studio versions and remixes of her songs into live performances that were even better than the originals. While her performances have evolved since and become a lot more theatrical, especially since the groundbreaking Blond Ambition Tour, those two elements have always been there in some way.

This brings me to her latest effort - Sticky and Sweet - which I had the opportunity of watching live in 2008 in Oakland, and which is registered in this Blu-ray disc. Back in 2008 I left the concert a little disappointed, especially since the amazing 2006 Confessions Tour had become one of my absolute favorite Madonna tours of all time - but I thought maybe it was the awful crowd, maybe she wasn't in a good day, maybe it was just the crappy acoustics of the arena, so i was eager to finally watch this Blu-ray disc and confirm that she's still got it. Unfortunately this disc not only confirmed what i feared but made it worse; in fact watching this disc at times made me uncomfortable and aside from two or 3 songs I never really found myself enjoying it as much as I usually enjoy watching a Madonna concert.

The audience energy is still there, especially because this concert was in South America where concert goers are notoriously enthusiastic; it wasn't there nearly as much in the concert I attended in California. But watch an old concert and notice how different it sounds when she "demands" that the audience stand up and jump, back then a gracious enthusiastic request, now a desperate shout, usually followed by calling them curse words Listen to her genuinely give her absolute all during a nearly 10-minute long remix of Into The Groove in 1987 and climax during the "Now I know you're mine" part, in which the audience confirms they're truly hers; now watch the absolute terrible 2008 mashup remix of Into the Groove and how the song becomes a messy collage of different beats where the stripped-down 'Now I know you're mine part" is nothing but a boring repetition of the same line over and over. The same happens with Like a Prayer (except for the "And it feels like" part which is great, the rest of the song sounds like a cheap fan-made remix) and both La Isla Bonita and Ray Of Light, which are just rehashed versions of the 2006 performances.

Musically, she decided to go with mostly pre-recorded music this time, including the drums, so watching the songs from Hard Candy felt like watching a recorded presentation, That is especially true because of the unnecessary video appearances by Kanye West, Pharrel and I'd say even Justin during 4 Minutes (which felt more like 20 minutes as I kept wishing it would end soon), couldn't she just have performed it by herself, with live music, especially with such fantastic musicians on that stage? Erotica was a completely electronic album but the 1993 Girlie Show had 100% live instruments and that's what made it so special, her live performances from that concert stand out as some of the best I have ever heard. I'd dare to say that watching the Truth Or Dare performances in the theater or watching a Gorillaz "live performance" felt for me more exciting than watching some of the Sticky and Sweet performances live, which is just ironic.

OK, I have to say there were some very good things: the 2008 version of Vogue and its coreography are refreshing and bring the song 20 years forward, the ballads (Devil and the Evita songs) are truly moving and without a doubt the best moments of the show. The audio and video on the Blu-ray disc are fantastic and the included behind-the-scenes is a welcome bonus.

The bad things are pretty much all the rest, you name it: messy rock Borderline and Hung Up, childish She's Not Me and Spanish Lesson (which are horrible songs anyway to begin with), god-awful dancefloor remixes of Give It To Me and Music, the vocoder in an otherwise great Human Nature, political propaganda and unnecessary shocking images in Get Stupid, which actually made my wife cry (from sadness) during the concert. But special mention goes to the completely unnecessary fan request part, I'd rather not listen to the song at all than have to go through a painful sing along over a monotone beat. I never thought I'd say that, but I really miss the old Madonna that would simply refuse to give in and play Into The Groove or Material Girl live because she didn't just feel like doing it. Looking forward to having her back in the next one.

I just want to continue on and on with the “Madoooonna – Madoooonna” chant – ever since I watched the “Sticky and Sweet” Buenos Aires Concert I can’t stop to hear and feel the music and the rhythm in my heart and soul and I want to keep yelling out her name. This piece of art is so magical and full of energy it makes you laugh and cry and dance all at the same time. It’s a fast paced festival of color and emotion and perfection - the Spanish section especially takes us to all new highs and then becomes deeply emotional with the songs from Evita; plus "Miles Away" is one of the best songs ever! The costumes, the dancers, Madonna – it’s like a perfect painting telling such a story – and Madonna’s smile is evidence as to just how much she enjoyed doing this! The sound quality of this specific Blu-ray is also outstanding, one of our best sounding discs for sure, absolute reference material.

What more can I add to the trillions of things written, documented, said, regurgitated over a 30 year career...of a woman called Madonna.
Queen of Pop...this concert was beautifully done and happens to be one of my all time favorites. Its glitz, glamour, music, dancing... my favorite pieces?
1- Vogue-
2- Express yourself
3- LUV Madonna feat. with Nikki Minage
4- Don't Cry for Me
and many others....
these are some of the high lights there are many others. Some songs were just blatant fillers, I did not like or enjoy, but it leaves you waiting for the great ones that do come along.
One cannot deliver greatness in one whole concert, but you know Madonna will not let you down.
Here she is in awesome toned shape, dances well, and gives her all...
After all, she is not the Queen of Pop if she doesn't give her all....and here she is a show stopper...
