Its the most fun of any PC game that I have ever played, and is realistic enough to keep me interested all the way to the end (if there is an end -- I haven't found it, but seemed to eventually run out of new missions). Have had no problem playing the game with an older PC and newer graphics card (Core i7 2600K CPU, RX 480 graphics card, and 27 inch Monitor -- played full screen wiith HDMI 1080 output/input.

Rushed release. The story is 10/10 but the rest of the game is hard to get over. It is a hard game to play if you really loved Mafia I and II. This isn't what a AAA game should like. It becomes clear when playing that they had an amazing story and I mean an amazing story line but didn't have the gameplay to back it up. You end up doing the same tasks over and over to the point you know what is going to happen. Not only that but the game is an open world which would be great if you had things to do besides the main story line.Yes they are releasing races, car customization, and clothing options but for people who bought and played on release day it makes little to no difference because the vast majority of players who were hyped aren't going back to the game. For instance look at the pre-release videos that showed you could feed a body to gators! That great and is really cool but in my entire playthrough i didn't have to do this or even need to do this once. And what that brings me into is the AI the AI is last gen maybe even two gens ago with them not giving a crap if you shot someone right in front of them or even hid in plain sight. And since we are talking about gunfights what happens if you attack a person on the streets? They call the cops but what if you take them out before they can someone else calls the police and you can do this enough times no one ends up calling the police and you just killed 10 people. Even the police aren't as good as Mafia I and III. Mafia I you run through a red light you get a ticket had to follow speeds and traffic. Mafia II removed the red light rule but kept the idea of getting a ticket or fine for doing things you aren't supposed to. Mafia III go as fast as you want hit other cars it doesn't matter. Yes we all heard it had a 30FPS cap for PC. And the keyword here is had now with the patch you are will be able to get a whooping 40-50 FPS with top tier hardware. But what do the graphics look like do the entail this level of stress on our rigs? With patch so minus the random sun glares and thing like that & graphics are around the same level as Mafia II. With some aspects of Mafia II graphics beating Mafia III. Mafia II had far more immersive little things that just added to the atmosphere. One of the most notable things in Mafia III is the fact they have a huge rail system but we have no trains or trolleys that they showed in the preview videos but we kept the track. But hey at least it is open world right? This was really sad and kind of a major disappointment(I was prepared to spend 100hrs in the world but I completed everything that was out there in 37 hours. If you just came from playing Mafia II where you could buy items from shops, help a random lady with her car, and even crash into buildings. Mafia III on the other hand is a watered down version of this where you can do the essentials and that's it. (They have Pawn Shops and restaurants but the most you can do is rob them for a few bucks no real interaction). This game has a ton of driving and is something that was super fun in Mafia I and II so how does it compare? Imagine you put soap all over the floor and then walked on it. I use this example because yes you can walk but it hard. To go along with this the car's damage models are hard to actually distinguish. One of the biggest let downs for driving is the fact that you don't really have to do anything to steal a car like you did in Mafia II you just sorta do it. The game is a ok game is it worth the 60 or 50 bucks on release day nope was i crazy excited for this game to come out yes. Was it a tab bit of a let down yes. This game is definitely a bargain bin game for like 8 bucks and not a AAA game as much as it hurts me to say this. But on a second had one of the best soundtracks a game has had in years.
Thank You for reading this.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2016Platform For Display: PCEdition: StandardVerified PurchaseI hope to bump this product up to five stars in the future. As you'll see there are some really annoying issues right now.
I never played the original Mafia, but I did play Mafia 2. That game was decent, but had some issues that prevented it from being a truly great game. The best thing about that game was the story. It was one of those games that really felt like a movie at times. That fact peaked my interest in Mafia 3.
Jump ahead a few months, I'm sitting Mafia 3 PAX East panel and feeling that interest grow. I thought to myself, "If they only pull off half of that, It'll blow away the first two games."
Jump to now. Thanks to good old Amazon shipping, two day shipping ended up being one day delivery and I got to give this game a nice workout.
GRAPHICS: The graphics are decent. They are not quite as impressive as GTA 5 on ultra or The Witcher 3, but they are more than adequate for a AAA game.
PERFORMANCE: In the words of Eric Cartman "I hate you guys so much...". The developer crapped their pants on this one. They made a cardinal error when releasing a PC game. THEY PUT IN A FPS CAP!!! Seriously?!? I know why you did it. You didn't want to delay the PC version of the game. You placed a 30 FPS cap on the console versions and you thought it was something you could patch out of the PC version. It still sucks and it's why you re losing a star until you fix it.
STORY: So far it's really good. In many ways it's better than 2. I love some of the throw backs to the older games.
GAME PLAY: They did some really fun things with the game play to open it up a little and make you want to play it more than once. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but I will say this: THINK HARD before you make a decision. I put this under game play, instead of story for a reason. As you play, you'll see why.
CARS: I like to put this into any open world review. The cars are good for an open world game. They are not great. I'm still waiting for someone to make a GTA style game that has cars that handle like Forza or Need for Speed. It seems like it should be possible, but no one has done it yet. Besides that there are lots different cars that run the range of performance.
ACTION: If you like a game that feels like an action movie, this one will fit the bill. At times I wish they had scaled it back. It pushes the boundary and feels violent for the sake of violence. I do not enjoy that. I've never found mindless / pointless violence to be enjoyable.
GLITCHES: You are going to find a few. They need to do so patching. Thankfully the auto save kicks in on a regular basis so you shouldn't lose much progress. Why? Does it crash? I haven't had it crash yet, but I did get stuck in a door. I wish I had captured a video of that. It was not fun.
OVERALL: This is a great open world game with a good story. It needs some polishing, but I'm sure they will patch out most of the glitches. There are no real deal breakers in regards to the game play, so this one gets a green light.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2017Platform For Display: PCEdition: StandardVerified PurchaseI wish I could give a review for this game , Mafia 3, but I can't get it to start. I've followed all the suggestions from the Steam community which by thee way are full of requests from customers unable to play this game. My computer specs are adequate and are able to handle every newer game on the market. I'm going to start a refund and hope for the best. To bad, I really enjoyed Mafia 1 and 2.
