I have an almost 3 year old nursling. I've tried MANY weaning methods. She really likes reading and books, so I thought I'd try this out. I read it without her first, and found it adorable. We were barely 4 pages into the book when she got angry and took it from me. She then hid it under the bed and called it a "bad book" and that Mommy's milk was hers. He little tantrum was unexpected. She realized very early into the story what this was about, and wanted nothing to do with it. Just want other parents of precocious and strong willed children to know that they MAY view this as propaganda. Again, hilarious. =)

This is a sweet book. It is the only book I have found that talks about weaning. But, it is cheaply made. I wish it was a board book, or at least put together better. (The book is paper stapled together)
The pictures are great. My daughter, of course, wanted to nurse after looking at the first two pages.
I really wish I could find a book about a baby being weaned. This book is really for toddlers watching their new baby nursing and remembering when they nursed and were weaned.

When it was time to wean my daughters (both nursed into the toddler years), this was a great book to share with them. I loved the idea of having a weaning party; we didn't do this, but we did mark the occasion with some amount of fanfare. If you can't find the book at Amazon for a reasonable price, be sure to check out La Leche League's website store, where you can get it for its COVER PRICE!!!!

Looking for good tools for weaning a 2 y.o. This "book" was completely unhelpful. Not something a child would enjoy looking at and even reading it aloud does not work. Very poor photocopy quality. I am thinking it is time for someone gifted to write a real, great child book about weaning. Anyone???

Books like this one affirm our families' choices and help our babies feel normal and loved. :o)

For Mellissa- there's a new book availableon here or on la leche league's site called 'Michele the Nursing Toddler'. I spoke w/ the author yesterday and it is specifically for weaning time. :o)

This sweet book made such a difference when the time came to wean my nursing toddler. It is a simple, straightforward and loving story told from the point of view of a toddler who has stopped nursing. Maggie confides that she sometimes misses her 'mee-mees' - but also tells us that she is a big girl now, and can do so many things she couldn't do before. This is a touching snapshot of a very important milestone, and it helped my daughter enormously to hear Maggie's story and to identify with her during the transition. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for writing this book!

My toddler loves to read this and it has helped tremendously with becoming ready to wean. The story is sweet and simple, we enjoy reading it. But I agree that because it is small and the photos are in black and white, it doesn't have the same feel as a "real" book. But certainly still worth it if you are encouraging a toddler to wean.

In 1998 this was a staple-bound book with b&w photos of the author's children, and I felt the text was a bit awkward...however, none of this seemed to matter to my child. She adored it. And with the promise of a weaning party, I'm sure this book really helped her come to the decision to wean by herself, which was always my intention.
