I do not like being another "bearer of bad news" but my 7 month old microwave just went into the trash this morning. After it had blown our CFI breaker and made a LOUD pop when I tried reheating a cup of tea, the lighted display and interior light went dark, never to return. After reading online the REALLY bad reviews about this model, I called Home Depot where I purchased it and told them they might want to reconsider selling this product in their store. I was told to contact the manufacturer and possibly get some credit or refund. The manufacturer told me they would repair it since it was under warranty but I would have to be responsible for shipping it to them. Not! Do not put your house at risk with one of these microwaves!

Just bought this last week, used maybe three times. This last time at stopped heating anything. Would shut itself down, then come back on in a few minutes. Just tried it again with no luck. I love the way it looks and it's price, but it working is more important.

I'm so sick of companies making crapping products. It's such a waste of our time to purchase it, bring it home, set it up, repackage it, wait in line at the return counter and then have to search on line for a reliable product. Why can't all stores carry reliable products? I thought HD did until now.

We bought this model on the strength of the Consumer Report rating. I think it is quite over-rated.

It has an 8-year warranty on the magnetron, but the cost of labor and shipping is such a large percentage of a new oven that is is pretty meaningless. After 18 months, the part died in a puff of ill smelling smoke during dinner preparation.

We used the unit on a daily basis for heating water for coffee in the morning, reheating leftovers, and making instant rice, potatoes, etc. So our average time for a use would be in the range of 3 -5 minutes, except when doing defrosts of 1 -2 lbs. 2 - 3 times per week. While it was working it did a good job for basic heating, but was unreliable using the automatic, weight-based defrost settings -- they always went to far and partially cooked the food, especially with chicken.

For reasons I never understood, I frequently had to re-open and close the door to start operations, especially when I wanted to use the "add a minute" feature. This operational "quirk" was quite annoying in the middle of busy meal preps.

We needed to replace our SS Samsung microwave after 6 faithful years. Wanted a big SS micro without too many unnecessary buttons, this fit the bill! Bought at HD for 119.00 + tax which was a better deal(about $7) than the $35.00 shipping charged by Amazon, plus we needed it now. This microwave is large, sturdy, and powerful. If you have children the pull handle in my opinion is better because you do not get little finger smudges. It has all the little things, add/deduct time, popcorn time, and defrost. You will not be disappointed in this microwave.

We bought this microwave because of the price (less than $80) at a local store. It works fine for reheating foods less than 2 minutes. Tried popcorn and it works fine for the first bag, but overheats an internal breaker and shuts off if you try a second bag. Took it back to the store and got a replacement unit. It did the same thing. We like the oven, but doesn't work very well. Guess we have to find another unit we like.

This is a good looking microwave that was LOUD when it worked correctly its first four months. It began kicking the breaker out around the 4th month we had it and then the frequency increased until it ran but quit heating any more...Would suggest buying another brand or model.

Perhaps "made in China" summarizes the problem, which I only realized in the more fine print on the back looking up the serial number below the Illinois address. DO NOT BUY 'MADE IN CHINA" for anything!!

I don't know about all magic chef microwaves, but this one uses adjustable door switches that if out of adjustment will blow the fuse. Closing the door too hard, or jostling the unit can throw the switches off. You need an ohmmeter (or lots of fuses) and a lot of patience to get them re-adjusted, and then you better treat it like a cake rising in the oven.

I had an old version of this item for over 10 years. Greatest microwave I've ever had. I THOUGHT I'd be smart & get another same model so it'd be easy transition for my 85 year old daddy. THIS MICROWAVE IS DEFECTIVE AND AWFUL‼️ DO NOT WASTE EVEN $1.00 OF YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY. I wouldn't pay a $1.00 for it if it were offered, I wouldn't take it for free‼️

This one caused trouble about first 5-6 months. Turn it on 2-3 min to make some hot tea? It shut off, BLANK, no display no electricity nothing. ALL ON IT's OWN. I'd unplug, then plug back in, hoping for reset. Yea. Right. It'd come on whenever it wanted, like it had an abnormal brain of it's own. I thought it was a minor inconvenience until it started doing it with TV dinners my daddy eats. I don't want him getting food poisoning, nor the thing catch afire or something.

Microwave always smelled weird when it was on, like plastic melting and/or wires or insulation burning. Timing was WAY off & it took longer times to heat WATER for my hot tea or daddy's coffee. Old one, took 2.30 min. This new defective one? 3.45-4.00 min. I am impatient. I want it now. I don't want to wait for my hot water to steep my tea. Ok, rant over. Oh. No. I forgot. I received an email several hours ago saying they are not refunding me the entire amount that I PAID FOR THE DEFECTIVE THING‼️ I am all but good and aggravated now. I'm contacting them the next day to 'discuss' why my total money isn't being refunded + the insurance that obviously was worthless too.
