Lots and lots of duplicates

There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
I had purchased this lot in order to get back into magic, because all my cards were too old to be used.
I read many, many, MANY reviews stating that the cards were in poor condition, or that there was excessive duplication. By the sound of it, I knew there was something wrong with the default supplier. As a result, I decided to go looking at other sellers. I went over to "More Buying Choices" and looked through the sellers. In the end, I chose The Gaming Broker, and what a great decision that was.
The cards were packaged in a very tight, specially designed, box for transporting cards.
The original description and reviews put me under the impression I would be getting older, second hand cards, from anywhere from 2004 and on.
What I got was superb: A collection of 100% genuine, mint condition cards. But here is the kicker: None of them were older than 2012.
No joke, every card was either from M13, Gatecrash, or Ravnica. Nothing less. I got the 25 promised rares, and approximately 75 uncommons.
Here is the spread of colors I recieved:
White: 189 Cards (about 125 Monsters)
Blue: 183 Cards
Green: 167 Cards
Red: 163 Cards (90 Monsters)
Black: 192 Cards (109 Monsters)
Fusion cards, or Dual Colored: 116 Cards (64 Monsters)
Artifacts: 73 Cards (Mostly Runes, but I did receive a few rings, and powerful scepters. 7 Monsters)
Lands: 25
A total of 1108 Cards!
There were no Basic Land cards included.
As for duplication, obviously there has to be dupes. We are talking about rougly 1000 commons here, there is no way they'd all be different! However, the duplications were pleasantly well rounded. Most cards will have 2 to 3 copies. Some with about 8 to 12 copies. The most dupes I saw of one card was about 20, but that was only one card.
If you need a stock of cards to build decks, and would like a head start, this pack is absolutely perfect.
If you are set with a lot of cards already, and are looking for a lot of rare cards, you should skip this one. However, if you are looking for commons to stock your decks, this lot wont fail you.
Overall Review:
-1108 Cards
-Nearly perfect spread of color, very even distribution
-Cards were MINT CONDITION and were from M13, Gatecrash, and Ravnica. THESE CARDS ARE STILL ON SHELVES IN BOOSTER PACKS.
-25 Rares were delivered as promised, aswell as 75 Uncommons
-Duplications were not excessive, and actually made the cards more appealling.
-Packaging was specially designed to ship trading cards, and the cards were sorted by rarity (rares towards the front, commons towards the back)
-Every card is accounted for, and every single one is undamaged
10/10 Would, and probably will, Buy Again
****EXTREMELY IMPORTANT****
I PURCHASED THE PRODUCT FROM "THE GAMING BROKER" THIS IS THE ONLY SELLER I BOUGHT IT FROM.
IF YOU BUY THIS PRODUCT, BUY FROM THE GAMING BROKER
Packaging of the cards
The cards were shipped in a card box and as a lot - nothing was packed in sets - just 1040 cards in a box. I did not receive the separate "bonus" rares that have been mentioned unless they were mixed in and I don't have the eye to spot them.
First thing that hit me after opening it, I grabbed a block of cards from the far left and every single one of them was a duplicate. One after another, after another, oh! a new card! followed by 20-something of the exact same new card. I was really worried by this point.
The fact that these were already grouped together tells me either the supplier is willing grabbing large blocks of the exact same card or this was already purchased, sorted, and returned by somebody.
Things did get more varied when I grabbed from a different part of the box, but about 65% of the cards have at least 2 or 3 duplications usually sitting next in line.
In the following numbers, if something had less than 10 duplicates, I did not count it in the "high duplication" number. I will list the mana type, the number of "normal qty" cards, the number of highly duplicated cards, and a note about the diversity of the duplicates. I had 1040 cards in total. Here is what I ended up with.
Swamps/Black - 218
-Normal cards: 161
-High duplication: 57
-note: qty 57 of Reaping the Grave
Plains/White - 157
-Normal cards: 143
-High duplication: 14
-note: qty 14 Warriors Honor
Water/Blue - 215
-Normal cards: 119
-High duplication: 96
-note: qty 22 temporal forest, qty 56 Mercurial kite, qty 18 Shoreline Ranger
Forest/Green - 115
-Normal cards: 115
-High duplication: 0
-note: many 3x, 4x, and several 8x duplicates
Fire/Red - 218
-Normal cards: 176
-High duplication: 46
-note: qty 23 About Face, qty 23 Granite Grip
Generic Mana - 96
-Normal cards: 78
-High duplication: 18
-note: qty 18 Wall of Spears
Mixed Mana - 21
-Normal cards: 21
-High duplication: 0
-note: only a couple doubles
I will upload a couple of annotated pictures for a visual representation. The most disappointing is my blue deck with almost HALF of them being duplicates. Overall I am happy with the distribution of the cards across the varied mana types. I did end up with 5 foreign language cards which doesn't bother me. The condition of the cards ranges from very good to medium wear. Most of them being in very good condition. About 15% of the cards are very old (white border) cards - I even recognize a few from when I had my one desk back in grade school.
My overall opinion?
I don't know. Prior to this, I only own a deck that was given to my by a friend to learn with. 20% of what I ordered is heavily duplicated cards and that feels like a rip-off when the justification is "Well, you get more than 1,000, so it's okay" I got 40 extra cards in exchange for 231 duplicates. It's a lot of cards, and they are varied when you ignore the chunk of useless duplicates. I know i will build a few nice decks with this and expand my knowledge of the game. I'm not displeased with the purchase, but I won't be making it again and I'll be dumping about 170 cards in the trash after writing this since it's not worth keeping and dealing with the seller to make this work better for me is not worth the time on a bulk purchase at this price.
It's not a bad product, but it's not great.

I am returning this and would be hesitant to order anything else from them if this is their level of care and detail to a MTG experience.
