I really struggled with deciding on the book to get for my new 60D. There are so many options. I was really looking for something that covered the camera in depth. I went to a book store to compare some of the chapters. Some of them just had cookie cutters sections from previous models where the camera name was just changed. Others spent a great deal of time on basic photography tips. (I already have books that help with that.) This book covers the 60D well. For example, it really talks about the flash system and what E-TTL II is. I carry it in my camera bag now and haven't looked back!

I wish I could give this book five stars. Mr. Guncheon is an excellent writer. His coverage of the 60D is thorough, detailed, and very well explained. His writing style is clear and understandable. He gives helpful tips and explains the WHYs and REASONS for using the various settings on the camera depending on the situation that you're in. That is the advantage of well-written third-party camera books like this one, compared to the bare-boned owners manuals that come with the camera that only tell you "how."

But I had to ding the book as a whole one star because the author's good work is undermined by the physical design of the book that makes it hard and even painful to read. If I could rate the design of the book separately I'd give it no stars at all. The typeface is tiny and an effort to read. Even the small Canon owners manual uses a slightly larger font size for the body type. Mr. Guncheon's book was given a sans-serif font, like Helvetica or Arial, that's not only small in size but exceptionally thin. The section headings are even worse: they are pale red in color and so thin they're barely there. You get eyestrain trying to read them. Likewise, symbols and icons used in the text are so tiny they often can't be deciphered without a magnifying glass. I could delve into this book, but I find myself shying away from it. Whoever thought this is how a camera book should be designed?

Mr. Guncheon has written a fine book that deserves a better physical production than it got.

The book is very 60D specific and I don't believe there's a better one out there. The book is simply how to use the 60D optimally, not how to take great photographs and earn awards. That would take a whole new book. If you have a 60D, you need this book.

I bought this not so long after upgrading to the Canon 60D, I read almost every page of the book and didn't find something really worth it or not mentioned in the manuals the camera comes with.

Regards,
Rodrigo Palma Saa.

Throw away the Canon reference manual and get this book. Easy to explain instructions and print is big enough to actually read without a magnifying glass. My photo class instructor referred me to this book and glad he did.

VERY INFORMATIVE AND EASY TO USE GUIDE. ALL LOCCATINS AND FUNCTIONS OF SWITCHES AND BUTTONS ARE COVERED IN SIMPLE TO UNDERSTAND DETAIL.PLENTY OF DETAILED PICTURES ARE ALSO INCLUDED. MUCH MORE EASY TO FOLLOW AND UNDERSTAND, THAN THE MANAFACTURERS GUIDE. THIS IS ALSO A GREAT REFERENCE GUIDE TO KEEP HANDY FOR SPECIFIC CAMERA SETUPS TO PARTICULAR PHOTO SHOOTING SITUATIONS.

This is a good book for showing you how to do things. It's written very much in technical terms, but not much in layman's terms. It is very thorough, yet a bit too much like the manual that comes with the camera for my taste.

However, I prefer the Digital Field Guide by Charlotte Lowrie, as she not only tells you how to do things, but also helps improve your photography. I've been using SLRs/DSLRs for more than 15 years now, and still have so much to learn.

This is an outstanding reference manual on the use and features of the camera.
It's the manual that should have come with the camera.
