Far more accessibly presented than the actual product manual, but I was certainly left wanting more technical and procedural detail. You'll learn more and more easily than you would with the OEM manual alone: it also makes a good field guide because the index is direct and comprehensive, so it won't slow you down. The photos the author includes as creative examples are, for the most part, of little use and, more than occasionally, a bit weird.

Magic Lantern guides have been around at least three or four decades, and are always a very complete operation manual.

I bought this book because the manual that comes with the camera is a bit cryptic. I was disappointed because I wanted lots more technical data but I did learn a few things I didn't know. For instance it doesn't even mention micro drives when are a good inexpensive to get lots of storage space but then I did learn about a special mode to use with photo shop. It's too basic for me but I would guess it's too advanced for beginners. Perhaps it's great for folks who are just starting to stretch their digital picture taking from point and shoot

It is a very good book. However, it needed to present some exercises to be complete with more photos showing the same subject on different settings with the authors comments and advices.

Personally I think it's a great book. I learned some things that I didn't know before about my camera. With that in mind, it served me well.
If you're a beginner, this book will walk you along.

This book is for any new user and it fully explains this camera.
This camera was one of the first digicams for under $1,000.

Everything I didn't know to ask was clearly explained. The buttons, displays and knobs etc. were covered with the how and why.

This book was the biggest waste of money I have ever seen. It's not even as in-depth as the docutmentation and instruction material that comes with the camera. I have never been so disappointed in my life. It's a great guide if you just bought a stolen camera and don't have the original manuals.

I recently sold my Rebel 2000 camera and bought the Digital Rebel. Since the Magic Lantern for the 2000 was so helpful, I ordered this book and I am glad I did! This book was even better than the book on my old camera. It helped me figure out things about using a digital camera that I just didn't understand at all, like resolution, file types, what is best for what use, etc. The camera's instruction book did not explain these things in ways that I could get a grasp of and this book did a great job. I would highly recommend this to anyone from both the perspective of understanding the digital side to learning all about camera controls. It is well worth the money because it will add to your enjoyment of the camera

I just bought my first digital SLR, the Digital Rebel, and I am an enthusiastic amateur. I found this book seemed to be written for me, the photographer, and not the long-time digital pro. It gave me far more than the manual did, with a lot of really helpful photography tips beyond the camera basics. The author seems to really know the camera as he does more than simply report on the features but also comments on them to make them easier for people like me to use them.
