Marks is a new writer to me, so thank you Robyn Peterman for gathering such excellent writers in this imaginative & fascinating series.
So here goes on the things that are appropriate for me to say. I think there is a backstory here and hope it will be filled in the rest of this book, or maybe a previous book of which I am unaware. Not to worry, I can find it. The writing was super, smooth and rolled from one scene to another quite well. The characterizations of the people were well done and it made it easy to keep up with who was saying/doing what. The dialogue fit the characterizations which, again, helped the continuity. As I said, I read just five chapters, but they built up to whatever is happening next in the coming chapters. I have a feeling it's going to get real interesting real fast. There is a conflict within the main character and I'm curious how that resolution, if any, will work out. The greatest surprise, for me, was how funny the author made these people. Their silent thoughts and what they say to each other cracked me up!
I enjoyed what I read and will pursue this writers' other books after finishing this one. Yes, I will post another review after reading the complete book. I don't have any hesitation recommending this, even after reading the prequel only!
I liked this story. It kept me interested and had some silly humor to add levity to the book. There is definitely some magic and some mayhem in this story.
The first chapter is sad, but sets the scene and explains why Evie is hiding from bad witches. She saw her mother, a witch, killed in front of her when she was a child and was taken by a bad witch to be raised. Evie escaped when she was in her teens and has been on the run with her cat, Clooney, ever since. She moves again to work as a high school teacher and meets a witch and warlock who explain that she will die on Halloween if she does not take up her magic as a witch and save herself. That is the intro to set up the rest of the story.
The name of the town, Assjacket, is a hoot. It made me snicker all through the book when it was mentioned. In addition, Evie has a familiar named Clooney who can talk to her. He has helped to protect her since her mother died. This helped add levity to the story especially since that cat loves to get his fur dyed different colors and likes to drink.
There were a few twists and turns that did not fully merge until the end of the book. Overall, it is a cute story with a sexy and very protective warlock that Evie falls in love with. I received this advance reader book and voluntarily reviewed it.
You see Evie is a witch and she has not used her powers in a very long time. She tries to fly under the radar when it comes to using her powers hopefully no one can find her. If she uses her powers then they could be traced and then she could be in danger.
But Evie is in luck there is a new guy that has moved into town and he knows that Evie is a witch and has come to train Evie how to use her powers becomes trouble is brewing. Evie must learn to use her powers so that she can protect herself and other people like her not to mention the people who live in Assjacket. The people who are responsible for her mother’s death are on their way to Assjacket for Evie.
Evie has come to love her friends, her teaching job and the little town of Assjacket and no one is going to take any of that away from her if she can help it. She will fight tooth and nail to keep what she has built in Assjacket, West Virgina.
Can Evie stop what is coming? Can she stop the people that are out to destroy her and the people of Assjacket? Can she save her life and everyone else’s’? To find out pick up your copy of Wicked Is As Wicked Does today. Trust me you will not regret it.
Wicked Is As Wicked Does has been an amazing and thrilling ride. It will take you on emotional roller coaster of a ride. I don’t think I have laughed so hard in a long time and around my house we laugh a lot. My husband keeps me in stitches all the time so if you can top that you are doing good and let me tell you Cherie Marks did just that. I am stilling laughing at certain passages in the book to this day. I don’t think I will forget it for a long time to come and I do plan on borrowing some of the things she said and using them when the opportunity arises.
I can’t wait to read me more about Evie, Dane, all the other characters and Assjacket, West Virgina. Or at least I hope Cherie gives us more of Evie and Assjacket’s little world. If you want to read a good book this is not the first book Cherie has written so check some of her other work as well.
Other than that typo, I really like this story, one of my favorites.
I really enjoyed this face-paced, action-packed romance. It kept me guessing to the end.
