The movie has its flaws. The biggest is that the first act is a bit slow, and this is where you lose some of the audience's interest. However, while it may be slow, this is a very measured movie. It takes its time telling its story. It lets every single actor ooze and build their chemistry with each other. There are more to these "male entertainers" than meets the eye. You have one that's a fan of the Backstreet Boys, you have one that likes to paint. No, they don't really want to be a fireman, or a sailor when performing, they want to be themselves. You wonder where this road trip of a movie is heading, and it builds up to a final act full of great stripping performances.
What surprised me the most about Magic Mike XXL? Andie MacDowell. Of all people, Andie MacDowell is in this movie. Jada Pinkett Smith comes in as the second most interesting female character (She was the first most interesting, then Andie MacDowell showed up). While the audience expects a lot of testosterone, it was these two ladies that gave the film life. They gave me life. I *live* for these characters; they should have their own spin-off movies, that's how interesting they are. I won't spoil anything, but their inclusion helped elevate what could've been just another road trip movie.
Yes, you'll have to slog through the first act, but you'll get to enjoy the fantastic second act, culminating in the expected finale, with a great final double performance that makes brilliant use of a singular wooden picture frame. Each male performer will end up expressing who they really are, and showing that your personality and interests can translate through whatever job you may have, even that of a stripper. Recommended.
